And calling N@N Programmers brainless will accomplish...what...exactly?

The ratings for Fresh Prince, Roseanne, and Cosby are the best for N@N, so they get the best real estate - particularly Fresh Prince. Full House still does decently, so it gets an ok piece of property. Murphy and Who's the Boss - not so - so you can see their slotting.

Based on my own personal tastes, am I happy about the scheduling? Not really. Is it a logical step based on ratings? You bet your blinky.
----
And for what it's worth, barring a rather abrupt rebranding effort and ignoring the show debuts down the road for N@N - you won't likely see any shows on Nick at Nite anytime soon with a copyright date before 1980, let alone 195x/196x. It's just an eventuality of the business that networks change.

I'm just waiting for Seinfeld to be aired on Nick@Nite. You know Nick@Nite wants to broadcast that sitcom to death. It's high on all the syndication TV show ratings right now. Prime-TV is already doing it in Canada. Prime-TV already wants to kill Seinfeld to death.

I will admit that N@N needs to cut down on the airings of FP. Airing a show 4 Times a Night that only had 6 seasons is way too much.

Seinfeld is shown alot on tbs and retails seem to be coming out fast for those. I'm glad for the who's the boss marathons. I didn't tape it last time around and I been taping it this time around in case it gets dropped. I've seen Full house, fresh prince, and Roseanne a million times. It would be nice to see newhart, Alice, the Jefferons, that girl on tvland or nick at nite. I don't know why abc family won't show perfect strangers. Family matters was spun off perfect strangers.

Listen to what your asking, Why ABC(FAMILY) won't air Perfect Strangers.lol Isn't it obvious? Perfect Strangers is not a Family Type show like the shows they currently air

Step by Step
Family Matters
Boy Meets World
Full House

So Perfect Strangers don't fall into that Fun Family Type of Show.

I think it definitely does. It comes from the exact same people and aired in the exact same timeframe as most of those shows and I think it would really fit.

Perfect Strangers and Hogan Family should air I think. Perfect Strangers might not have a normal traditional family, but it's still a family type show, and has excellent writing. The jokes on that show are HILARIOUS. Balki says some funny things.
This would be perfect for ABC Family: 12PM Full House, 12:30PM Hogan Family, 1:00PM Family Matters, 1:30PM Perfect Strangers, 2:00PM Step by Step, 2:30PM Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, 3-4PM Boy Meets World, 4-5PM Full House. Nice 12pm-3pm block of Miller-Boyett shows.

The Wednesday Summer Schedule is HORRIBLE. 4 Hours of Roseanne Followed by Murphy Brown?? YUCK!!!

that;'s the only watchable night IMO (even tho I won't watch either TCS or Roseanne anymore because the DVD's are coming out).

N@N doesn't realize that Murphy needed more time to find it's 11:30 audience. N@N treats FH and FP like gold, yet MB not only lasted longer than those two shows, but also was a bigger hit in the ratings. MB was the #3 series on season (was Fresh Prince ever top 10 even?) and was top 10 for four years, and was a constant top 30 performer until the last, tenth season. Yet Nick treated it like garbage, instead of accepting that MB hasn't been aired as much lately so it'd take audiences a little longer to get reacquainted with the FYI crew as opposed to the Tanners or Banks.

L&OFan4Eva

Honestly, I would watch Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I do like all the shows that are aired.

But I HATE how Nick schedules them. I do agree they are overplayed but they obviously do very well. You can't argue with that. I've really gotten back into Fresh Prince again but it's played a LOT.

Thanks, Pav. I think people are just confused because N@N still has that schedule that troop posted on their site. (Once again, they are being very slow at updating, I guess...) Although, I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that Murphy Brown isn't being shown in the 12:30 slot, since Roseanne is already being shown THREE times on the weekends. I know Roseanne is a ratings grabber, but at this point, I think even some of the fans would be getting tired of seeing it so much...

How doesn't Seinfeld fit on N@N? It's perhaps the most popular sitcom of the last 20 years. If they can air more adult shows like 'Roseanne' and aired 'All In The Family' before that then 'Seinfeld' should have no problem fitting in.

very true, Roseanne fits better with shows like Seinfeld than it would with The Cosby Show or Full House. It's more of an adult-based show, yes it's about a family, but it's definately not geared FOR families with small children.

N@N should move Roseanne to the 1am slot because it is so far from a Family Show.

That's true :)

It will just end up being another overplayed show on N@N if it ever came to N@N :(

N@N should move Roseanne to the 1am slot because it is so far from a Family Show.

Why should they move it just because it isn't family-friendly enough? There are some of us out there who could do without the unrealistic sugary crap like Full House.

well, Roseanne gets ratings though.

However, I am glad it never dumbed itself down for kids. When I was 10, both shows were on but I liked Full House a lot more, 15 years later FH makes me gag and Roseanne's one of my all time favorites

I agree, but it's all down to ratings and Roseanne does better than all of these shows...... I think it's tied with Fresh Prince as N@N's highest rated show.

Seasons 5 and 6, which I believe you're referring to, are the best seasons of the entire show. Season 1 was definitely the Cosby-ish season and was quite family friendly, but you'll notice the show started getting a little darker during season 3. If you didn't like seasons 5 and 6 much, I doubt you'd probably like seasons 1 to 4. However, you wouldn't know until you tried it...

yes, I agree. Seasons 4-6 were the real golden age of Roseanne. The first two seasons are way too "we're the white trash answer to Cosby" and the third season was a step in the right direction and when it started getting good, but seasons 4-6 were definately among the best television of the 90's (up there with seasons 3-5 of Seinfeld IMO). It plummetted downhill in season 7, tho 8 and 9 were a tad better.

I thought season 9 was unwatchable when it aired, but looking at it almost a decade later, and realizing the point Roseanne was making that year, I enjoy most of it. She knew the show was ending so she took the 9th season to experiment and through the year basically told her own personal story, as opposed to furthering the Connor story.

well, I felt they dumbed Becky #2 down. Darlene could hurl an insult with her and she'll take it, yet Becky #1, both in the first half of the series and again in season 8, would dish it back at her.

Even tho I much felt that the show got better after Darlene replaced Becky as the "star" of the children, she was far more interesting than Becky either way.

Come on!!!! MB and WTB were LONG-RUNNING, TOP 10 series, Foxworthy was cancelled by two networks and only lasted 2 years

I agree completely! Foxworthy is not a classic by ANY means! (If it was, it would have lasted longer, or at least still have a notable "cult" following.) Now, I'm an avid M.B. fan and can admit some bias, but there's no denying the pure facts that M.B. and W.T.B. were long running, (lasting for 10 and 8 seasons, respectively), and were in the Top 10 at some point. Plus, they were classics...W.T.B., obviously, and M.B. can be considered a classic because that was the first sitcom we had seen centered around a strong woman in a long time. (And we haven't seen one like it since.)

I'm grateful to N@N for bringing M.B. back to the air and keeping it on, but this is one programming move I completely don't understand...

Nut true, Roseanne premiered the same season as Murphy Brown and revolved around a strong-willed, stubborn, and opinionated woman. It was also overall a bigger hit than Murphy Brown. However, I do think both Roseanne and Murphy Brown ushered in a new era for sitcoms. Both in a way helped to end "The Cosby Era" where shows were supposed to appeal to the entire family, not just the adults. In a way, both sitcoms thrived in feministic ways.

I liked the 2nd season of The Jeff Foxworthy Show on NBC on Monday nights better. It became more of a family show that 2nd season and showed Jeff at his job. The show actually had better ratings on NBC than it did on ABC on Saturday nights. well, the lottery wasn't until season 9.

Seasons 1 and 2, Roseanne didn't really stand out from the crowd, it was just another sitcom about a working class family. The show got better when Roseanne and Tom had creative control of the show around seasons 3-6, and even Roseanne herself views those as the best seasons and isn't too fond of seasons 1 and 2, because it wasn't the show she wanted it to be.

The Wednesday Summer Schedule is HORRIBLE. 4 Hours of Roseanne Followed by Murphy Brown?? YUCK!!!
I know that gets me mad too. I mean I am not saying that these shows are not good it is just that I wish they wouldl show marathons of the shows that they don't have on there anymore. Kind of like they did with the anniversary in June. The thing that got me mad about that was that they only showed one episode of the show and then when they had an encore they showed the same episode. I want them to put other shows back on their. The only shows that I like and watch on N@N right now are Full House, The Cosby Show and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. THE ONE AND ONLY JEFF FOXWORTHY JOINS THE
NICK AT NITE PRIME TIME LINE-UP JULY 23

Santa Monica, CA, July 18, 2005 - Acclaimed comedian Jeff Foxworthy joins the Nick at Nite family when The Jeff Foxworthy Show, joins the network's sitcom lineup. The series' funny and true-to-life stories of a blue-collar family is loosely based on Foxworthy's stand-up routine and implements the comedian's unique brand of Southern humor. The Jeff Foxworthy Show will begin airing in its regularly-scheduled timeslot of Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET/PT beginning July 23.

"Jeff Foxworthy is such a talented comedian, and we are excited that we can bring back this show for viewers to enjoy all over again," explains Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land & Nick at Nite. "We are thrilled to have his comedy join Nick at Nite's line-up."

The popular sitcom aired from 1995-1997 and focuses on the life of "Jeff Foxworthy" -- a blue-collar worker who is married with two sons. In the first season, which aired on ABC, the sitcom takes place in Indiana where "Jeff," a small business owner, lives with his wife "Karen" (Anita Barone) and son "Matt" (Haley Joel Osment). The second season, which aired on NBC, involves a cast change in which Jeff's wife, now played by Ann Cusack and two sons, "Matt" and "Justin," (Jonathan Lipnicki), live in Atlanta where "Jeff" manages a loading dock of a shipping company. well, even tho the show was certainly NOT a bomb, the popularity of Fresh Prince on Nick as opposed to the low ratings of Murphy Brown and Who's The Boss is also a sign of this. WTB and MB both spent four seasons a piece in the top 10, Fresh Prince's peak was #16, yet FP is one of Nick's top shows.

I think some of you are overreacting to the Jeff Foxworthy Show's success on N@N. It will only be there for a limited time, it's not like it's going to become the new The Cosby Show/Roseanne/Fresh Prince of the network.

As for shows that flopped on N@N but were hits in their day, there's no explanation for that. Some shows just do better in syndication while others don't.

Hell, I'm a huge Maude fan and that show hasn't done well in syndication and flopped on TV Land in 2001.

However, if you notice Fresh Prince spawned Will Smith who has an impressive catalog of box office hits......the guy is a super-star whether you like it or not. The same can't be said for anyone on Who's The Boss? (Alyssa is no where near Will's league) or Murphy Brown. Added to this, I don't even think Murphy aged that well, a lot of the humour was topical and of its time.

I think The Cosby Show and Roseanne do so well becuase they helped define an era of television and have more of a built-in audience than the other shows.

As for Full House......well, it does well with the kids....

well, even tho the show was certainly NOT a bomb, the popularity of Fresh Prince on Nick as opposed to the low ratings of Murphy Brown and Who's The Boss is also a sign of this. WTB and MB both spent four seasons a piece in the top 10, Fresh Prince's peak was #16, yet FP is one of Nick's top shows.
WTB got decent ratings on N@N, not FP ratings, but not Wings ratings, yet Nick@Nite still buried it to late nights.

WTB? started decent, nothing big, but faded very quickly thereafter.

Well yeah after N@N shoved it to late nights  But I agree, the original ratings flops seem to be doing well on N@N but the top 10 shows are getting the lower ratings. Hmm...

Fresh Prince is the only example of that. The Cosby Show and Roseanne were #1 shows at their peak. I wouldn't exactly call Fresh Prince a ratings flop either, it did respectable, it wasn't Cosby/Roseanne/Seinfeld/Friends big, but it did good enough.

Full House got pretty bad reviews too, it did peak at #7 but before that it was in the mid-late teens.

No, WTB died down fast at 10pm. It was moved to 1am I believe, and Cosby was brought back to save that hour.

Full House wasn't in the top 30 it's first 4 or 5 seasons. It wasn't until ABC moved it to Tuesday's before Roseanne when the show finally took off in the ratings department, from what I hear. I'm surprised ABC kept on renewing in it's first few years.

Full House is probably the most critically hated show to ever grace N@N's lineup. I'd say Fresh Prince got more mixed reviews...

I agree that it is weird that some shows don't age as well as others, I mean "Who's the Boss?" spent YEARS in the top 10 of the Nielsen Ratings and "Murphy Brown" was a huge hit for CBS, "Wings" did well but not amazing for NBC, "Coach" was in the top 10 a couple times, yet all of those shows flopped on N@N

I'm sure part of it is promotion, I think N@N expected "Roseanne," "Fresh Prince," etc to do better than the shows mentioned above and promoted them more with more commericals, bigger marathons, etc, but it's still obvious that they do better and it's hard to tell why.

I think USTVFanForumUK made a good point about Will Smith and "Fresh Prince". "Murphy Brown" was a very topical sitcom that was a symbol of its time (although I think it is still very funny in reruns). "Family Ties" is another example of a topical sitcom that didn't age well I think. I'm pretty shocked "Who's the Boss?" didn't do well, it's a very family-friendly 80s happy show that has done decent in syndication, but it couldn't manage on N@N. "Coach" and "Wings" just haven't had the appeal in syndication for one reason or another (although "Wings" spent considerable time on USA)

I think this trend will continue, "Mad About You" will likely not do well since it hasn't in syndication (despite being a VERY funny show, especially early on) and "Home Improvement" will be a smash hit for N@N

and now a question for pav:

How have "Wings," "Murphy Brown," and "Who's the Boss?" done in overnight compared to N@N's overnight expectations for them. I mean, they still promote "Who's the Boss?" a decent amount (like for the Easy TV summer and N@N's 20th week and weekend events, there were plenty of WTB clips and they did renew it through 2006 right?) and "Wings" keeps bumping around N@N and TVL instead of being completely cancelled, so have they at least done decent in their timeslots despite their failures in primetime?

Yeah it was a double take of Full House followed by WTB followed by TCS followed by a double take of Roseanne, I Believe it lasted about 2 1/2 months and then they replaced it with a double take of TCS and then a couple months later TFPOBA. I was so angry when they put WTB on early cause i always used to watch N@N but now im upset i didn't take advatage of my time cause now i love the show...
