I'd like to start a thread of ugly cars - cars so hideous-looking, it's hard to beleive any sane auto company would sell them!
First, a car from American Motors, which was a crazy company anyway - the Pacer! :D

It was a preview of things to come. Today, everything has those awful stubby tails (even "Cadillacs").

That's not so ugly.
What is ugly is that car Malloy drove during the last season of Adam-12; that yellow thing. I don't even know what it is, but damn, it's ugly!

I know what you're talking about. It was an AMC Matador. A '74-'75.

I don't have a picture but the ugliest car I've ever seen in my life was this old Ford Pickup that my neighbor bought when I was little. This thing must have been about 20 years old and was covered with rust. My neighbor who was around 18 or 19 at the time wanted to make the car look better so he went out and bought some green and yellow latex paint. He painted the whole thing with one of those big wide paintbrushes that you would normally paint your house with. The bottom was green and the top and hubcaps were yellow. The finished product looked like a really scary John Deere tractor.

The 91 Caprice. I thought it was so ugly! It reminded me of a boat or Noah's Ark. But it was an omen of things to come. The rounded design. Yuck!

I agree. I don't care for the "Euro" rear end at all.
The first generation ('76-'79) Sevilles were much better in every way; they were faster, too.

Ah yes! I carpooled with a woman who drove one. It was driving to work in a fishbowl!! I was soooo embarrassed.
Also, one time when I had to go to a school dance in a '74 Javelin. The car design itself wasn't so bad, but the moron had painted it by hand with HOUSEPAINT!!! It's body was white, with red pin-striping and get this - red hubcaps! I thought I would die!
Anyway, I hate to admit it, but I liked the design of the Gremlin. Maybe it was the crush I had on the guy in my apt. building who owned one.....! ;)

Reminds me of one my husband bought as a winter car (his other was a Vette). He only paid $1000 for it (in 1998, the car was an 86) and it was pretty beat up. Someone even broke out the opera window in it trying to break in. He just put the old cardboard and duct tape treatment on it. It ran well and I've never been in a car where the seats were more comfortable, but boy did it look BIG and BAD!! We named it the "UncleBuckMobile". He was finally rear-ended and because of the damage to the bumper, they wrote the whole car off (because of it's low value)!! He got $1000 back from insurance for it so basically got to drive it for 3 years for just the maintenance costs!
Don't knock it! You can't beat those good old cars! I hate most of the silly looking "boxy, bugs" they're putting out now.

The Chevette was an ugly little car, but we had one for years; it was one of many handmedown cars in my family that my brother and I eventually ended up driving, and that car was indestructible. We literally drove that car into the ground, and it was still running until the day we finally junked it.

Oh I don't blame him - do you know what one of those is worth now in good condition? That's my dream car - even over a Vette. That long front end was considered soooooo cool back then! It was all engine too! What were they 10 or 12 cylinders?
My husband has a Vette, but we just had to put it up on blocks because of where we're living now. That's when he had to get the Uncle Buckmobile for winter driving, and now the Aurora. I hated that Vette actually. Do you know how tough it is to get into one in a miniskirt and 4 inch heels? They have a 4" rim on the side of them that you have to step over and they're so low to begin with, that let's just say, it doesn't leave much to the imagination - like a Sharon Stone scene!! And you feel every bump and stone on the road!
Yeah - see - you kids kill all the fun!! And you say parents do! ha! ;)

I think it was named the Chevette for CHEVrolet and ETTE< meaning "small and cute." Anyway, those little buggers were tough cars - I saw one in a parking lot recently - and I think they were based on the German Opel Kadett. (Vauxhall in Britain had a similar car, also called the Chevette.)

They sure were! My brother paid $500 for his (not sure how old it was when he got it), but it ran for another 5 - 6 years before he had to junk it.
I didn't think they looked all that bad for a small car at the time really.
