Lennon's 'India, India' to make debut in Broadway

London, April 9, 2005

A quarter of a century after his death, John Lennon is to make a Broadway debut with a pair of hitherto unpublished songs, including India, India, an emotive impression of the country and its heritage. It is to be performed in public for the first time.

Lennon wrote India, India in the late 70s for a musical of his writing named after his song, The Ballad of John and Yoko. The song, which has a similar vocal style as Paul McCartney's voice in Hey Jude, recalls a trip to India in search of spiritual enlightenment.

It is said Lennon was writing about his 1968 visit to India when the Beatles met and stayed with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his Rishikesh ashram.

Excerpts

India, India, Take me to your heart, Reveal your ancient mysteries to me,
I'm searching for an answer, That's somewhere deep inside,
I know I'll never find it here, Its already in my mind
India, India, Listen to my plea, I sit here at your feet so patiently,
I'm waiting by the river, But somewhere in my mind I left my heart in England,
With the girl ( Ono) I left behind
I've got to follow my heart, Wherever it takes me,
I've got to follow my heart , Whenever it calls me,
I've got to follow my heart, and my heart is going home, India ah.

Thanks for the post.

I was listening to a Lennon song yesterday in the car, and I was thinking how sad it was that he was no longer around. Nice to hear that some new music from Lennon is going to be around. :)
