Sometimes songs on a CD or a tape are played at a funeral. Here's what I'd like to have played at mine, which won't be for a couple of decades*:
Pink Floyd: "Great Gig in the Sky." The Byrds: "Turn, Turn, Turn." Blind Faith: "Can't Find My Way Home." Jeff Beck: "Another Place." Led Zeppelin: "In My Time of Dying." The Talking Heads: "Heaven."

They played, Oh Danny Boy, at my father's funeral. Perfect for the big Irishman. It wiped me out.

My dad says when he dies he wants us to play "Happy Trails." I think he was just kidding though.

Amazing Grace done by a solo piper is always really moving.
I always wanted "Funeral For A Friend" by Elton John until I heard the final song in the Life of Brian - "Always Look On The Bright Side (Of Life)" - now that's the one I want played for sure! And I want everyone up singing, clapping and dancing to it!!

True story, my grandmother's neighbor Freddie died several years ago and when we walked up in the funeral home they were playing "Freddie's Dead" by Curtis Mayfield over the speaker system  I busted up lol
"Freddie's Dead, that's what I said!" That song was never the same for me after that

The Beatles? Yes, definitel will be played on my funeral mix CD! "Let it Be." "In my Life." Perhaps one or two other songs by them as well. And R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" will definitely be on it.

How about "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)" by Billy Ocean? That's a great song for a funeral.

"To Where You Are" and "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" by Josh Groban
"Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin
"Breathe" - Pink Floyd
"Lorelei" - Styx (it's my nickname)
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon and Garfunkel
"I Know You're Out There Somewhere" - Moody Blues
"A Dream Within a Dream" - Alan Parsons Project
"Wasted Time" - Eagles
"Creed" - Rich Mullins (The Apostle's Creed set to music with the words slightly modified, by a man who died relatively young and tragically, in a car crash)
"Elijah" - Rich Mullins (About how he wanted to go to heaven like Elijah did, in a chariot of fire)
"Song to My Parents" - Keith Green (Another Christian singer who died very young, in a plane crash--my final testimony to all my friends and relatives who are not believers in God)
"How Great Thou Art" by Sandy Patti (it was sung by church soloists at both my maternal grandparents' funerals and will likely be sung at my mother's--kinda a family tradition)

There's a song that not alot of people are familiar with unless you're a fan of the band Dream Theater, but it's called "The Spirit Carries On".
Example of some of the lyrics--
I used to be frightened of dying
I used to think death was the end
But that was before
I'm not scared anymore
I know that my soul will transcend.
Move on, be brave
Don't weep at my grave
Because I am no longer here
But please never let
Your memory of me disappear
Alot of DT fans already said this is the song they want played at their funeral.
Okay, first of all, I'm 100% serious. I'm going to do this.
During the eulogy part of my funeral, I'm going to have someone read aloud a statment I will one day write about how much I enjoyed my life, etc. and my last request is to pay the one song that best describes my philosophy of life...
Then they'll play the song where a bunch of dogs bark "Jingle Bells."
If everyone in that room doesn't laugh, I will be so disappointed.

Before I forget any further, add these: The Beatles: "Eleanor Rigby" and "Come Together." Jeff Beck: "Love is Green" and "Sleep Walk."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------Hot Lips (to Klinger): "Don't talk back to me I'm an officer." Hawkeye: "But you're no gentleman." (the nurses laugh.) Hot Lips: "Oh can it nurses."

They played that song at both the funerals of my paternal grandfather and my maternal grandmother. :( I don't know what they played at the funerals of my maternal grandfather or my paternal grandmother, I was only a toddler then.
