WXRK/New York Shifts Music Directions
Infinity's WXRK (K-Rock)/New York abandoned its Alternative programming following The Howard Stern Show this morning to take a more classic-based mainstream Rock format featuring artists such as Guns 'n' Roses, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest, among others.
However, with the launch of "K-Rock 2," a web stream "dedicated to playing the latest music offerings from today's new artists," fans of the station's former Alternative format can still listen to that music online.
"K-Rock is always looking for opportunities to further connect with our listeners," says OM/PD Rob Cross. "Enhancing our playlist, while simultaneously launching a web stream whose sole purpose is to feature breaking music, enables us to serve a wider audience with the music most frequently requested, without changing the fabric of the radio station."
Cross tells R&R that no staffers lost their jobs in the transition, though the airstaff is on vacation until next Monday. MD Mike Peer is handling music duties for both the FM signal and the online stream.
