An Actor/Actress leaving a show, then being replaced and then the original actor returning to the show.
I was thinking that this only happened on the Jeffersons when Mike Evans left in 1975, then was replaced in 1976, and then Mike Evans returns to the Show in 1979 to his character. Someone let me know if that only happened on the Jeffersons
On Roseanne, Lecy Goranson left her role as Becky Connor in (I think) 1993 and was replaced by Sarah Chalke, who was replaced with Goranson in 1995 I believe. If I'm not mistaken, Goranson ended up leaving again, and was again replaced by Chalke.

You're right about Roseanne on that. Lecy starred as Becky from season 1-5 then left for college reasons. Sarah was then cast as Becky for seasons 6-7. Then Lecy came back for season 8 as Becky.(Although there is one episode I remember during season 8 where Sarah played the part of Becky). For the 9th and final season Sarah came back as Becky and Lecy was gone for good.

I hate it when sitcoms do that...it's like just hope and wait until the original actor and/or actress comes back...don't replace them with an actor and/or actress that looks nothing like them.
You can tell then that they'rw desperate for ratings.

Including recurring guest stars? On "Cheers," Gary (of Gary's Old Towne Tavern) was alternately played by Robert Desiderio (I'm probably not spelling that right) and Joel Polis. I don't remember if it was an availability issue or what have you. Polis was Gary, as far as I was concerned.

In Boy Meets World Harley was played by one guy for season 2 and then another guy played him for a couple episodes before the original Harley returned.

I don't know if this counts as a sitcom, but The Flintstones had Mel Blanc replaced as the voice of Barney for a few episodes while he recuperated from a car accident.
