Seems like Ray still acts like a child sometimes ( if not more ) when he doesn't get attention or his way. He doesn't stick up for debra and is lets his mom dictate his affairs in his own house. His parenting skills are no better. It's make believe I know, however, there are no shows that do show a husband in a better light. Today, the husbands are dogs, don't take care of their family, are scoundrels, etc. and women who seem to be wearing the pants most of the time.

This show is great and realistic. No parent is perfect. Sure Ray has his faults but doesn't everyone. In this show I think that Ray Barone is a great father.

I don't view TV characters as my role models, so I can't answer that question.

I do think that the dimwitted, bumbling sitcom father is starting to get really old though. Can't they come up with anything new and origional for TV characters? This stereotype really isn't showing men, especially husbands and fathers, in a positive light, IMHO.

Antonio (Wings) "Oh, forgive me! I thought we could use a break from your 'All the good men are married or gay' speech!"

Robert (Everybody Loves Raymond): "It's always about you, Raymond. Raymond, Raymond, Raymond, everybody loves Raymond!"

Ray is a whimp and should tell his mother to knock it off, but he won't because if Marie behaved, there wouldn't be a show!

In real life, Dr. Phil would tell Ray and Debra that it isn't healthy to expose their children to Marie (since she has no clue what is appropriate to say and what is not). He would also question why Robert is still living at home, or was until recently(can't remember exactly), as do I. Mostly, good ole Ray needs to grow some b#@@% and be a man for once in his life.

But of course this is just a sitcom, and sadly I'll bet most of us can relate to at least one thing on each show.....
