I have noticed over the years of television there has been some repeated story lines. They are..............

Most likely because these are normal things that happen in most people's lives.

All In The Family and The Jeffersons had almost identical storylines. Archie and Edith entered their grandson in Most Beautiful Baby contest. George and Louise did the same thing with their granddaughter. The storylines took different twists of sorts but were basically the same. Both sets of parents were against the contests.

Everyone in TV land has had amnesia or knows someone who has. How common is amnesia, really? Sheesh.

What about two people being handcuffed together or locked in a room?

lol yeah Locked in a room, freezer or safe is pretty common on tv. I remember when C.C. and Fran got stuck in the wine cellar on "The Nanny". And on "My So-Called Life" one of my favorite episodes was when Rayanne gets handcuffed to the bed... its a very funny episode.
OTHER recurring themes:
The husband forgets the wives birthday/annivessary and tries to make amends.
Or wife isn't upfront about her feelings and husband suffers while trying to please her.

I've seen a couple episodes of "Cheers" where the same story was used on "Frasier". Not the whole story, just part. Like, the "Cheers" episode where Sam lent some money to Diane and she was seeming to go on a spending spree all of a sudden. And on "Frasier" once, that happened with Frasier and Roz.
I've also seen the same story used on "Taxi" and "Cheers" (not surprising, since they both came from the same producers)

ther was an episode of "Bonnanza" once that used the same plot as an episode of "Little House on the Prarie". On "Bonnanza", Joe went temporarily blind; on "Little House on the Prarie" one of their daughters did, only her blindness was permanent.
Not surprisingly, the "Bonanza" episode was written and directed by Micheal Landon, who also directed, starred in, and sometimes wrote "Little House".
Also, the episode of "The Andy Griffith show" where Andy saves Gomer from a fire at the gas station, was used, virtually intact once, on an episode of "Gomer Pyle: U.S.M.C."

One of the most convoluted plots, and I've seen it on both For Your Love (freak accident, I never watched that show, I swear!) and Full House:
The wife goes into labour, the husband is having pains too. Turns out he had appendicitis and can't be there for his wife when she's giving birth.
Didn't Joey also have appendicitis when Rachel gave birth?

Joey had kidney stones during Phoebe's birth, which isn't quite the same thing because Phoebe isn't his wife and that whole storyline was supposed to be a funny parallel to Phoebe giving birth to the triplets - Joey "giving birth to" (i.e. passing) the stones.
