Movies of today vs Movies of yesteryear...

Some movies are ok of today,but yesteryear movies have more glamour,more great actresses of its era, like Betty Davis,Joan Crawfore,Judy Garland, just to name a few. The movies back then were black and white, I have been wacthing the Old time movie channel and they do have more I don't know,more Glitter?more Pazza,They knew how to do a premeir for a movie. Movies like Wizard Of Oz's,The War Of The Worlds, in the 1950's-1960s it seem people were interested in sci-fi films,and horror.Like The Birds,Pyhsco,etc. Also movies like What Ever Happen to Baby Jane? With Betty Davis and Joan Crawford was excellent.In the 1970's they still made Love stroys,but mostly horror and disasters movies like The Excorscist with Ellen Brynstein which she won an acedmy award,and Linda Balir,also The towerinf Inferno which bought stars from the 1950's and 1970s together. In 1978 Grease was the word,the number one musical of 78,Starring John Trovat and Olivia Newton-John which made them house known names,but before Grease John Trovota starred in Saturday Night Fever in 1977,and the soundtrack was the all time favorite best seller.Altough Grease bought back musicals,John and Olivia was not Ginger and Fred Astair.Going back to 1930'smovies like King kong with Fay Ray was a box office Bonaza. In 1940-1950's westerns were big also,and John Wayne was the man of westerns, Jimmy Stweard made alot of movies in his days,but in 1930's It's A Wonderful Life,was one of his first movies.In 1980's such movies as Xanadu, with Olivia Newton-Johan as a muse starred Gene Kelly,she did a number with him which was pretty good ,but the movie floped. Other big names of 1980's were
Jane Fonda,Dolly Parton And Lilt Tomlin 9 T0 5,which they played secetarys,which they got revenge of there boss. So the films of yesteryear we had some pretty excellent actors,and even now there not so bad,but I still like black and white films.

I think that modern films get much more harsh criticism when being comapred to older movies because the people criticising them are living nowadays- and have to live through all the crap being released in cinemas. I mean, there were probably loads of bad movies made in the 40's and 50's, it's just they're so bad they haven't survived for us present-day viewers to see. I agree though that it appears the standard of film-making has gone down, and the ratio of bad to good movies is much worse now than in the past, but in 50 years, films like Garfield or Gigli or The Chronicles of Riddick will be forgotten, so that people will only see the better films (though there are few) of today.

As I said though, I think standards have gone down, and it's probably because it's so easy to make special effects now, so some producers who care only about money sacrifice story for money. It's happening more and more now- you don't see more slow paced, subtle comedies such as All About Eve being made now, because films are marketed on what can be condensed into a 2 minute trailer. The Day After Tomorrow was marketed on the 'New York in ice' photo alone.
