This sitcom is about Laurie Taylensen, a former drug and alcohol addict who is struggling to have a "normal" life with her son, Aaron. Laurie and Aaron live with Laurie's sister, Denise, and her family. Laurie and Aaron were evicted from their New York apartment and forced to move into Denise's Philadelphia home. Laurie is currently jobless and is currently going to therapy twice a week to her therapist, Dr. Harris. Laurie is very dependant and is glad that her older, loving sister has volunteered to take her under her wing until she is fully capable of doing it by herself. To add to Laurie's many problems, she (and Denise) both were abused (physically, emotionally, and sexually) by their father.

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Denise and Mike (and the four kids) learn about Laurie's seriousness about therapy. Mike makes a not-funny joke about Laurie going to therapy to Denise (and Laurie who overhears it). Laurie becomes upset and turns to Dr. Annie.
Ep2: Stop Me If You Can:
Denise and Mike have a hard time controlling their 17 year old daughter (Nicole), who is more than gladly to rebel against her parents. Laurie bumps into a farmiliar face-a guy she use to date, Pete (Charlie Sheen).
Ep3: Truth About Pete:
Pete and Laurie spend more time together, resulting in the two beginning to have feelings for the other. Laurie is offered the chance to join Pete and his friends as they go to a party (where alcohol and drugs will be present). At first, Laurie turns them down, but decides to go with Pete and them - after being insulted by Mike's cruel comments about her neediness towards Denise.
Ep4: Our Sons:
Aaron and Michael go to a party where Nicole is present. Nicole is wasted and pressures them into joining her "in the fun". They end up getting drunk too. The party gets crashed, as the kids run like crazy. The cops bring home a passed out Nicole to furious parents Mike and Denise, who also find out about the boys's presence at the party.
Ep5: Laurie Feels Guilty:
Laurie confesses to Dr. Harris in therapy that she went to a drug and alcohol party. Dr. Harris is disappointed in Laurie, and feels she should come clean to her sister and her son. Laurie doesn't want her son to find out, but ends up telling Denise-who is beyond furious. After Denise blows up at Laurie, Laurie runs to be comforted by Pete.
Ep6: Kiss Of Death:
Laurie and Pete kiss passionately for the first time. After feeling neglected by Laurie, Aaron asks Mike and Denise to adopt him as their own. Denise and Mike are shocked by Aaron's proposal, and tell Laurie what happened. Laurie is deeply hurt but sees she hasn't been spending much time with him since Pete came into the picture.
Ep7: Double Therapy:
Dr. Annie feels Laurie and another patient are dealing with the same issues and decide to join them together. Laurie and Suzanne (Kirstie Alley) learn they are dealing with the same problems and find comfort in each other as well in Dr. Annie. Allison accidentally reads several old love letters of Laurie's (from an old drug-using boyfriend of hers). Allison is shocked to find out that her beloved aunt used to do hardcore drugs frequently.
Ep8: Passing Of Letters:
Allison shows the letters to Nicole, Michael, and even Aaron. Aaron is deeply embarrassed and angry by the letters. He immediately takes the letters from his cousins and refuses to let them read them. Aaron is still not exactly okay with his mom's past history. Meanwhile, Laurie and Pete bump into Suzanne in the grocery store and invite her over for dinner. During dinner, the three get a little "tipsy" and do some more hard drugs. Afterwards, a guilt-ridden Suzanne puts some sense into Laurie's head.
Ep9: Not-So-Good:
Laurie learns that Suzanne has "ratted" on her to Dr. Annie. Dr. Annie calls and notifies Denise of what is happening to Laurie. Denise talks about it to Mike, as Aaron accidently overhears the whole conversation and is extremely pissed at his mom.
Ep10: How Could You:
Laurie is confronted by Aaron who is royally pissed. Laurie learns how much her drug-using has affected and hurt her teenage son all these years. Mike decides to go through his sister-in-law's bedroom in search of evidence (if any). Mike discovers a few sringes and a couple joints in her nightstand. Mike takes them and shows Denise-who is "in-awe" that he went through her things. Pete gives Laurie a call, Laurie breaks things off with Pete as Aaron is standing by her side (over the phone).
Ep11: Going Back:
After seeing how hurt Aaron is, Laurie talks to Dr. Annie about Laurie going back to drug rehab as soon as she can. Laurie is enrolled into Susan Marie Davis Drug Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh. Dr. Annie promises to visit her twice a week in rehab (when she can). Laurie confesses to Aaron, Denise, Mike, Nicole, Michael, and Allison that she is enrolled in a rehab in Pittsburgh, she asks Denise and Mike to watch over Aaron for her (as they do).
Ep12: Buh-Bye Laurie:
The family and Dr. Annie says their good-byes to Laurie. Mike, Nicole, Michael, and Allison stay back as Dr. Annie, Aaron, and Denise see her off to rehab.
Ep13: Talking To The Good Doctor:
Denise talks to Dr. Annie to see if she can give herself and Mike some marriage counseling, Denise bribes Mike into going to counciling with her by letting him go play golf with his buddies every Saturday for the next two months.
