THE PLOT:
The Carter family of Los Angeles is the wealthiest, most powerful and ruthless family in the world of Adverstising, and they appear to have everything in order... at least to the outside world but the truth is that they are falling apart in every way and their whole world is about to come crashing down.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
Albert "Al" Carter: The patriarch of this family, Al is as ruthless as they come. he has been working with Carter Advertising since he was 16 years old, when he was an apprentice for his Uncle Stephen. Once he graduated from Harvard with a degree in Business he set his sights on and successfully bought the company from his Uncle, which destroyed him, causing him to have a total nervous breakdown. he has spent the last 30 years in a mental facility, which Al pays for, not out of love, but to keep his uncle at bay. He is married to Simone Rascall-Carter, who is thirty years his junior and as beautiful as they come. He met Simone when she was hired to be the nanny to his kids while he was married to first wife, Janice Randall-Carter. He slept with Simone one week after they met, and announced his engagement to her two weeks later, along with the announcement that he was divorcing Janice, his loving wife of almost 34 years. This destroyed Janice who turned to her old herione habit and was left penniless and lost custody of her children. Even after she was totally recovered, Al banned her from having contact with her children. Janice later remarried to Al's arch-enemy, Jonathan Bishop, of the much more successful Bishop & Carlyle Advertising. Janice died of Ovarian cancer in 1996.
Simone Rascall-Carter: Al's current wife, she is only thirty years old and is a self-possessed, self-absorbed, former beauty pagent winner who has a penchant for booze and a flair for the dramatics. She is Al's second wi fe (see above for how they met) She is starting to regret ever marrying him in the first place. She is depressed and unhappy. She has lately been contemplating leaving him, but is too fearful of what he could do to her, and more importantly to her, her social standing, something she cares about deeper than anything. She is considedered, the most powerful and elite sociallite in L.A. and wants to keep that. She comes from a very poor family. Her mother was a single mother raising seven kids on the salary of a waitress at a diner. When Simone got the job at the Carters, she was a shy, young women who wanted nothing more than to raise enough money to go a good college. But that all went out the window with her wedding to Al. She turned cold, selfish and heartless, she disowned her family and hasn't spoken to them since. She even changed her maiden name, which used to be the irish, O'Connely, something she is ashamed of.
Jeremy Carter: Al's oldest son, with Janice. He currently works at Carter Adverstiting as the head of the accounting department and he centers his whole life around his work, and is the prodigal son. He hopes to take over the position of President and CEO from his father someday. He is in his thirties and is twice divorced, from the same women. Loving, Jessica Barrett who could not take the long hours he worked and his uncaring attitude towards her. He lives with Al and Simone.
Serena Carter: Daughter of Al and Janice, Serena is in her late-thirties and works as the head of the marketing department at the adversting agency. She lives with Mark Kinkade, her husband of five years, in a loft in Pacific Palisades. She is mostly happy with him, although latley she has been noticing something different about him, he seems unhappy and distant, but she cannt figure out what it is or why. She is fighting to hide a dark secret from her past in college and is trying not to spin out of control.
Byron Carter: Al's younget child, from an affiar he had on Simone during their engagment. He is currently attending law school at Yale, but wishes to switch to the Drama school, something Al has forbid him to do, he wants Byron to make something of himself, and does not believe that he can do that by acting. Byron is shy, senseitive, and has a caring heart, even despite his uncaring, unnurturing family life. He is his fathers greatest embarresment, and the vain of Simone's existance. She hates the fact that he reminds her of Al's infidelity to her, which has scarred her greatly. He wishes to escape from his overbearing family and has sough comfort in the arms of many women, and men, a secret he hides from his family to this day.
Miranda Shepherd-Carter: In her early-60's, she is Al's cold, heartless and emotionless mother. She is just as ruthless and driven as Al and is the driving force in his life. Nothing he does is good enough, big enough and perfect enough. She wants everything her way and they constantly fight for control of the company and ultimatley the family. She hates Simone with all her being and lets her know every second of the day. She tells simone she is a s*** and a w****. The only person in the family she likes at all is Jeremy, who for some reason brings out the softer side of her.
Markus "Mark" Kinkade: Serena's husband of five years. He works at Carter Adverstising and is Jeremy's boss, something he never lets Jeremy forget. he deeply loves Serena, but latley has been distant, cold and rude to her. he has been having sexual feelings about another women, Trisha Rollins, a sexy and flirtatious receptionist at the company. He feels it would be fun to try sleeping with another women, but is afraid of hurting Serena, his girlfriend since high-school.
Preston Wade: Simone's handsome, generous and caring best friend and confidante. He has known Simone since she was in high school and has stuck close by her ever since. Too close for Al's liking, as Al is constalty jealous of him. But that is without reason as Preston is produly, loudly gay. Preston also shares a secret relationship with Byron, as they have slept together several times over the years. It was nothing romantic, just casual sex, but he was Byrons first gay relationship and that is when Byron was only 16 years old. Preston is pedophile who is petrified of getting caught but won't come forward and get help. Simone knows nothing of this.
Jessica Barrett: Jeremy's ex-wife, twice. she is soulful, loving and understanding. almost too patient with him. They have been divorced know for ten years and remain the best of friends. She works as a computer enigneer at the advertising firm and is one of Al's favorite people. The marriage was an arranged marriage, of sorst as she is the daughter of Al's oldest friend, and former business partner Carl Burton. She is a single mother of two children. both under the age of five. Brett, her son is 3 years old and is the product of a vicious rape. Angela her daughter is 2 years old and the product of a short-lived marriage to con-artist Kent Roberts. She shares custody of Angela with Kent, who recently was released from federal prison for stealing millions of dollars from the adverstiing firm, which he once worked for as an investment consultant. He uses his postion as Angela's dad to try and weasel his way back into Jessica's life, as he started to develop genuine feelings for her while they were married. Jeremy and Jessica remain friends and latley have been getting closer to a reconliation, something they both fear.
Kent Roberts: Jessica's ex-husband and father of 2 year old, Angela. He just got released from Federal prison for grand larcency against Carter Advertising. He is out for revenge against the Carter family and even Jessica, despite his intense feelings of love for her. Jessica testified against him in court, which got him sent to prison. He is currenlty plotting a scheme to get reveng on the carters, and that just may include Murder.
Trisha Rollins: SEE MARK KINKADE.
Bridget O'Connely: Simone's 17 year-old sister, who has come to town seeking help from Simone with an intense personal problem. She is not someone that Simone is happy to see, but when she hears Bridgets problem, she is propelled to help. Bridget currently lives with Simone and Al.
Sean Jackson: Simone and Al's 20-year old Foster son. he has been living with them for three years now, and they may adopt him. Is comes from an extremly broken home. His mother was a hooker who was killed by her pimp when Sean was four years old, and his father died of a herion overdose whe Sean was just ten. After his dads death he went to live with his brother, Keith who is now 35 and has always been demented and sick. Keith sexually, physically and verbally abused Sean in every chance he got. Sean has dabbled in drugs, and has a serious cocaine habit. he is very shy and insecure about life. Currently he has been satisfyin himself by working as a male prosititue for some of Simones, lonely, rich, bored socialitte friends. He also has a secret attraction to another Carter family member, Byron who he has slept with twice, Byron is majorly in lvoe with Sean, but for sean it was just sex. Sean is bisexual. He lives in constant fear that his brother, Keith will come find him and hurt or rape him again, something he has done many times and enjoyed it very much. Keith is currently in prison for his many crimes against Sean and other kids, but is scheduled for parole in the near future, something sean is afraid of happening.
