Who do yo all think are or is the best actor(s) in the current crop of UPN sitcoms:
One on One
Half and Half
Eve
Second Time Around
All of Us
Girlfriends
The problem with all of these shows is that none have stellar writing and without good writing the actors can't really take off. Personally I don't think anyone in One on One shows off particularly good acting ability- Flex and Kyla Pratt have somewhat engaging personalities- but they both seem to be more or less playing themselves. I prefer Kyla Pratt in Proud Family where we don't have to see her.
On Half and Half I think Obba Babatunde is the best one and he isn't even a regular player. His Broadway background helps immeasurably- he should be in a much better show than this. Valarie Pettiford is a decent actress but again the writing is holding her back. Essence Atkins is the very worst out of all of them in this if you ask me.
On Eve, Brian Hooks and Ali Landry are funnier than the others, but I wouldn't say that either could really handle anything more substantial than this show. I compare this kind of lightweight sitcom to Three's Company which was a lightweight show for its era- Three's Company's actors were way better than anyone in this series
Second Time Around- I haven't seen it enough to comment
All of Us- to me this one has the worst acting of all these shows. Duane Martin and Elise Neal don't bring any spark to their characters and LisaRaye is good to look at but that's about it
Girlfriends- This one tries to be the most mature of all these shows, but I find a lot of their attempts at being dramatic to be unintentionally funny esp scenes with the actress who plays Joan.
