 Is it me or has Christmas has gone too overdone and commercial. Back in the old days, Christmas was about being with your loved ones and giving gifts that comes from your heart. Now the malls are packed with people fighting over the last digital camera or Bratz dolls and they spend a fortune on mindless gifts. Plus the mall started playing the carols a day after Halloween. Oh and it was already decorated for Christmas as well. What a way to get shoppers to spend a lot for Christmas presents. When I was a kid, the malls and other stores would decorate and play the carols after Thanksgiving. Now, it's getting earlier and earlier. Pretty soon you'll hear Jingle Bells before Halloween at the mall. I love Christmas, don't mistake me for a Scrooge. But I like the carols and decorations in December, not in November. I love the true meaning of Christmas and try to pay no mind to the commercialism. I don't spend a lot during the holidays and go overboard. But it's a pet peeve for me that I heard Jingle Bells and Sleigh Ride at the mall on November 1st. To top it off, it was decorated to the nines in Christmas decorations and there were a bunch of little kids waiting in line to see Santa!! I thought I slept through November! Christmas Commercialism has changed big time.

Christmas in one mall is like Christmas in any mall - samedecorations, same songs on the music system, same overall commercial blandness. And all these radio stations are owned by conglamorates who program Christmas music with little taste. No wonder so many black Americans are ditching the holiday for Kwanzaa - I'm Irish, and I'm seriously thinking of ditching it for St. Stephen's Day, an Irish holiday on December 26.

Speaking of December 26, who digs Boxing Day? ;)
