I think it would be better to compare them years apart and not only one year apart. That way the 'evolution' can be compared better.
Like when Gloria Estefan was in Miami Sound Machine, her first solo album and the last one she made (can't remember the name):D

I got this information from a website(Unison) and they said Unison came out in 1987. Maybe they were wrong?[shrugs]
