I think blue cheers was the first true hard rock group.

They're best remembered for their cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues," which substituted instrumental solos for the baritone "voice of authority" lyrics, from their Vincebus Eprutum LP. :) :p

Blue Cheer was one of the first bands to be considered "heavy", a sort of proto-metal band from the Bay Area in the late 60's. What was the quote I heard, their album from 1967 Vincibus Eruptum was described as "a cement mixer giving birth to a dump truck", as I recall.

You should really think about buying vincebus erectum, outsideinside, and the new and improved blue cheer. The new and improve album from blue cheer is best known for two of their greatest songs ever "fruits and iceburgs and piece of mind". This group was incredible back in the day.
