I just heard this on KISW: A club shooting at a DamagePlan show in Columbus, Ohio, has left guitarist Dimebag Darrell dead. The former guitarist of Pantera/DamagePlan died after a gunman leaped onstage and fired at the band and others in the crowd, leaving three dead and four wounded. Details upcoming.

This IS one of the saddest days in rock.:crying:

At Least 5 Dead, 2 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting

Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

NBC 4 reported that of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

this is horrible :( My heart goes out to all fans of Pantera and well as family, friends and everyone else of all the victims. I have a friend who was a huge Pantera fan who is at a loss for words right now.

I know when you go to arena/stadium/theater type concerts, they always have weapon-checks, but at a small club, it's all-things-goes. I hope maybe after this, they will change things around.

Also, even tho the two cannot be compared, does anyone else find it highly ironic that Dimebag Darrell is killed by a crazed fan by gunshots on December 8th as well?

This has been a bad day in rock, John Lennon's shooting in 1980, Vince Neil of Motley Crue causing a deadly alcohol-related crash which killed his passenger Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle in 1984, and now this.

From another message board I frequent:

I just got a call from Joe Stampley (remember him?) He talked with Vinnie this morning. Vinnie said a guy jumped on stage and shouted "You broke up Pantera" then grabbed Darrel in a head lock and shot him five times in the back of the head before grabbing another person from the audience. Vinnie said he started to jump over the drum set to tackle the guy but a roadie got to him first and a cop fired a shotgun at the gunman's head killing him.

Vinnie also said he thinks it was a former band member from Louisiana but he wasn't sure. Pantera went through several incarnations before they found the right group of people.

Obviously this has shaken the whole family up a bit. They lost their mom six weeks after being diagnosed with cancer four years ago and now they lost Darrel. Vinnie said he will never perform on stage again.

I hope this ****ing gunman is enjoying his stay in Hell.
