I don't think that having her come out in a towel and then nude... is going to hurt that tv show in the least.

ABC issued an apology:
"We have heard from many of our viewers about last night's `MNF' opening segment and we agree that the placement was inappropriate," ABC said. "We apologize."
I do think that even more people will be tuning in for sure.

You have to wonder if ABC intentionally pushed some buttons just to get the free publicity. Not that the show needs it, but who knows, maybe another 2 million viewers will tune on this week.

nah, I doubt it.
I was really impressed that abc apologized so humbly. I mean, it sort of wasn't even a wrong thing, but they took responsiblity.
oh yeah, and I definitely won't be stopped -- I am hooked.

I think the show is doing well without going to other outlets where it may not be appriorate. Not all football fans are DH fans and vice versa. In fact I see DH and would never see football. On the other hand putting an ad in Playboy wouldn't hurt. HMM

If the football player had been white.... this would have never been such a big deal.
But people are idiots, and prejudice.... and the fact that a white woman was jumping into the arms of a black football player upset them.
Idiots.

I thought about that. It makes sense if you really think about it. Racism is STILL alive in 2004.

Indeed.
I find the NFL's "shocked and disgusted" attitude towards this somewhat hilarious, since they have cheerleaders in almost nothing jumping around during the entire game. o.o

Here here! Hey NFL -- pot...kettle...black.
Unfortunately though I've been hearing that advertisers like Kelloggs & Lowe's have been pulling ads from the DH timeslot. Even though ABC is hangin tough w/this MNF stuff, I'm so worried they will yank our fun show off the air if these big companies keep pulling their ad spots.
This holy roller stuff drives me crazy! Finally there is a witty show on TV and the moral majority wants to get it pulled.
We cant let that happen to our Wives!!!!!

I don't think they'll pull it, if they did, IMO ABC would be totally ruined. They would be at the bottom of the heap again, and I doubt they want that.
There's always advertisers out there that will advertise :)

those 40% probably did watch it for hot girls or because of their wives, but got sucked in, and a smaller percent (like myself) probably actually didnt start watching for some "hot girls? :happyface

Hopefully - its just makes me worry that even big companies like Lowes would fall under the pressure of groups that are pushing for the show to get cancelled. We don't know how bad it could get and I'm sure ABC are not the ones who want the show to get cancelled at all - but if they don't have the money - they just don't have the money. Not much they can do about it

There will always be sponsors, if they'll sponsor daytime soaps, and some of them are way worse than DH believe me, then I don't see why DH wouldn't always have sponsors :)

Ok -- so I may be a little over the top today, but the activist in me just couldn't help but do this. It kills me to think that these idiot advertisers are selling out so I say let's give them a piece of our minds! In my spare time today -- which I seem to have a lot of right now! -- I pulled together a few names and numbers. Let's tell these jokers that millions of viewers can't be wrong about Desperate Housewives and that they need to get a grip!
Here ya go gang -- give 'em hell!

FCC Investigates Desperate Housewives Promo on Monday Night Football
More than 50,000 complaints were filed with the FCC after Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan dropped her towel in an ABC Monday Night Football skit to persuade Terrell Owens of the Philadelphia Eagles to skip the big game. The scene then cut to Sheridan's co-stars, Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman, watching this happen on TV and talking about desperate women.
The FCC is now conducting an investigation to determine if fines should be handed out. ABC, the NFL and even the Philadelphia Eagles have apologized over the skit. As for ABC's Desperate Housewives, the promo definitely put the controversial show on the map.

Networks drop more than towel
Friday, November 26, 2004
By Alfred P. Doblin
I'm not a prude. I don't even play one on television. Yet I am in a quandary about the NFL's cross-promotion of "Monday Night Football" and its hit show "Desperate Housewives."Actress Nicollette Sheridan and Philadelphia Eagles player Terrell Owens got hot and steamy in a locker room in a lead-in to the game. Sheridan, wearing nothing but a towel, tempts Owens to skip the game for an implied one-on-one scrimmage. Owens agrees, Sheridan drops her towel and runs into Owens' arms. To use football parlance, that is how a receiver gets sacked.Reaction to the promo has been loud. Some folks are amused. Some folks say the negative reaction is because Owens is black and Sheridan is white. Most of the anger comes from people upset about mixing sex with football. Granted the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders aren't hired because they trained with the American Ballet Theatre. But there is a difference between what cheerleaders do on the field and even what goes on in racy commercials. The difference is boundaries. I'm sure that many men and teen boys ogle cheerleaders at Dallas games. But if I were a parent -and I am not - I would not have appreciated the hot-and-spicy pre-show to Monday night's game. The lines between sports and entertainment are becoming as blurred as the ones between news and entertainment. Everything is about everything, which means everything is about nothing.Sheridan's bare back is not pornographic. There are hotter scenes on many network shows airing at the same time. The difference is parents know that if their kids are turning on "Desperate Housewives," they might be turning on other things as well. Not true with "Monday Night Football."There is a lot wrong with professional sports today. How many ways can you spell "Artest?" But at the end of the day, it is all about the game. Despite the scandals and the brawls, the skills needed to play professional sports have not been compromised. Playing a sport well is something beautiful to behold.Football is a violent sport played by a lot of men with anger-management issues. It is also a game of skill and smarts. Most boys play football not for the promise of sex and money when they are older but because they enjoy the sport. Those kids didn't need a sex education class on Monday night. Nor did they need to see an athlete willing to ditch his teammates for sex. Parents have a right to expect some respect from networks. There is a lot of sex on television already. Monday Night Football didn't need to add more. This weekend, I'm sure some TV station will be running "It's A Wonderful Life." At the center of George Bailey's life is Bedford Falls. While George lives, it is a warm, caring town. When he sees what it would become if he never had been born, it is sleazy and corrupt. The question is which is better. For George Bailey, the answer is clear. For those of us living in living color, the answer is not black and white. It is not simple. It is about finding the boundaries that define our contemporary main street. The public airwaves are our main street, open to everyone. Parents need a road where they walk their children without having to encounter a red-light district. Some argue that road exists: Sesame Street. That's not Main Street; it's a detour.ABC is interested in ratings. For all the talk about Disney's family effect on its network, ABC, it's about money. ABC executives can apologize all they want; I don't believe it is sincere. The promo boosted "Monday Night Football" and made "Desperate Housewives" even hotter.
In reality, ABC used the wrong desperate wife. They should have had Teri Hatcher in the towel. As Hatcher drops the towel and runs toward Owens, Jerry Seinfeld inexplicably walks into the Eagles locker room. Owens faces the camera and says: "They're real - and they're spectacular."That would have been funny. And there would have been nothing wrong with that.
