What's up with listing entire casts like "Friends" and "Will & Grace"? Shouldn't it be individual people, or at least comedy teams (Sam & Diane, Kermit & Miss Piggy)?

#1 will be George Costanza, for sure.
Archie Bunker, Lucy Ricardo, Mary Richards, Homer Simpson and Kramer will be in the top 10. But that still leaves 4 empty slots.

well, a show like Friends was supposed to be an ensemble piece where the 6 characters were all supposed to be equals, so they should be recognized as a group instead of seperately.

Well, yeah, I know that, but it seems weird to name the list "Greatest TV Characters" and then list two entire ensembles.

Nothing against Carla.... but I would have thought Cliff would have made it before her.
(although Norm is the best, he wasn't that much of a character)

I think Tony Soprano and Fonzie will be in the top 10.
And I don't know if they will include them since they originated in the movie but Felix and Oscar from The Odd Couple deserve top 10.

Fonzie will definitely be in the top 10.
Tony Soprano... he should be on the list, but I'd be surprised if he showed up in the top 10. Seems he should rank a little lower than that.

So the Top 10 will consist of.... (in no particular order)
Archie Bunker
Lucy Ricardo
Mary Richards
Homer Simpson
Kramer
Tony Soprano
Fonzie
George Costanza
Felix/Oscar
and ONE more.
(Kramer and George Costanza may be put together under "Seinfeld Cast" though)

Interesting. Jack Tripper should be higher though, and I wanted to see Chrissy :( But that's okay.

You people never saw the Six Million Dollar Man?
One would think that Stone Cold took the name (Austin) because of the show.

Columbo was the only one I wasn't expecting.
Although, now, I completely see why.

Columbo was the only unexpected one for me, too.
Tony Soprano would have been less obvious if they hadn't mentioned other Sopranos characters on the list.

What makes you say that?
Other than listing whole casts as 'characters,' I don't think they have bad choices at all.

The top 10 aren't stupid... I just think that Tony, Mary, Homer, and Lucy should have been ranked higher.

You mean to tell me that no characters from That's My Mama or Good Times made the list but stupid ass Mork made the list? I'm in a state of shock.
I think the list is more pointless than stupid actually. Every once in a while, some channel makes a list like this and it's always the same exact people every single time. I mean, even in this thread, most people were able to predict who would be in the top 10.
If TVLand made a list of the 100 Greatest TV Characters, it'd be completely similar. The Top 10 would be almost congruent.

I'm happy to see Mork on the list. He's such a great character of television history, IMO.
What do you have against the alien?

Robin Williams just acting TOO CRAZY. He went overbard a lot. A lot of things he did wasn't necessary. I wonder if he used cocaine while doing Mork and Mindy-lol

I don't think Robin Williams went overboard in acting out his character. What do you expect ... his character was an alien. Of course, aliens are going to be protrayed as being "odd" or "different" from the norm.
So I ask this .... do you think the actors who played Martin on My Favorite Martian and ALF on ALF were overacting? If not, WHY?

I never watched ALF or my Favorite Martian, but the guy on 3rd Rock from the Sun didn't act like Robin Williams. I'm confident that Robin was HIGH when filming Mork and Mindy

I doubt it, Robin actually seems like he's just very hyperactive. My uncle was the same way.
I don't think Robin overacted, that's just the way Mork was. Mork was an oddball, what do you expect? :p

Well that's why the show lost viewers every season because he was too over the top. Still can't believe that idiot made the list and not these TV characters

But so were most actors/actresses.... the entire appeal of Mork & Mindy WAS that Mork was a crazy.

Man, you just loathe the dude.It lost viewers becuase:In the second season, network executives decided that even though the series was a big hit, everything needed to be changed! They actually decided to do more serious and meaningful stories when the audience was simply loving Robin Williams silly slapstick humor! They also moved the show from Thursday to Sunday evenings. Look at your tv schedule ... you won't find many top-rated shows on Sundays, especially comedies. They also "got rid of" the entire supporting cast. You know; the people it took the first season to get used to! Anyway, when ratings took a nose dive, they decided to change everything back for the third season.

The Mork character was fine when he was on Happy Days but when he had his own show he turned into a NUT. If he acted the way he did on Happy Days then maybe the show Mork and Mindy wouldn't have been too bad.
