Benson or Gimmie a Break?

I'll take Gimmie a Break. Benson was much funnier on Soap.

I haven't seen either series in many years, but I remember laughing til tears came to my eyes and my sides hurt at some of Gimme A Break's first 2 seasons of shows when they first aired in the 80s. I was in my teens, I don't think I'd react the same way to this show now, though. Benson was toned down in his series, which is very common (I think almost mandatory) for a wild supporting character who gets a spinoff. From the first Benson episode where the dobermans were chasing him around the estate I knew Benson had lost some of his edge in the spinoff. Benson never made me laugh out loud really, though Robert Guilliame is a vey good actor who could make mediocrity watchable.
