Since CATM only had one entertaining character which was Chico and his famous phrase-LOOKING GOOD!!!!!. Other than that, The show didn't have anymore funny characters but Sanford and Son of course had Rollo, Fred, and Julio so would Have to choose S&S.

Sanford and Son.
I love Chico and the Man but Sanford and Son makes me laugh more. I think it's funnier.

S&S (although I hated the Rollo character)
The best characters on S&S were Fred, Hulio, Esther and Bubba.

Chico and the Man
In my opinion .... "Sanford and Son" SUCKED!
S&S was the same dumb jokes in every single episode. "Esther, You Ugly." "You Big Dummy." "How'd You Like One Across Your Lip?" "This is the big one. Elizabeth, I'm coming to join ya honey." All amusing the first time around but after that ... nope.
Now I'm not dumb. I know S&S is more popular than CATM. I know that it's considered more of a classic than CATM. But in my opinion it's junk. Nonetheless, I still own the show on DVD. Mainly because my dad likes S&S.

The TV Guide Critic said in 1975 that S&S was one dimensional. Do you agree?-lol

Yeah. Which is odd. Because I almost never agree with critics.

I never found him funny.
Maybe it was because all his scenes were with Lamont.... who just sucked in every way possible.
And I agree with the critic and TVAdam.... S&S is very one-dimensional, but I still like it.

To all you who bashed Sanford and Son: "YOU BIG DUMMIES!" HOW WOULD YOU ALL LIKE ONE 'CROSS THE LIPS?" Nah, just joking. You're entitled to your opinions. Sanford and Son, baby! Chico and the Man was good, though.

I disagree with TVAdam with the fact that Sanford & Son sucked. I think both shows were equally funny, and I think the reason why Sanford & Son had so many catch phrases was because in the '70s they were popular and just about every show had one, but they may have over done it. Catch phrases weren't uncommon in Norman Lear's shows, (they all had one).

He tried to make his sitcoms more realistic than others. So, I don't know, does everyone in their normal lives use catchphrases? I don't.

Did the Jeffersons and One Day at a Time have a catch phrase?

TvAdam, that's funny. Imagine people using catchphrases in their everyday life. Ha ha! TVshowanalyzer, I don't believe The Jeffersons or One Day At a Time had a catchphrase.

I'll have to say both shows were great and a joy to watch but I'll have to say Sanford and Son since you get to know the characters, the punch lines and I'm watching them on DVD and you get to better understand the humor and what you didn't see in the original run (or syndication) in the first place.
