Although most reality television is trash, there are minor exceptions.

For example.... The Amazing Race and Last Comic Standing.
Two very good examples of a reality television done right.


Those are the only two reality shows I watch, along with Survivor, but I will admit its not as acceptable to non-reality fans as the other two.

Show me me how horizontal stripes make me look fat, and then again show me how I can hang out with a bunch of obnoxious f-s who act worse than children trying to play Candyland.

I mean this is why we watch TV, right? To hang out with the people we avoid in public?

Oh man, this is what really makes relaxation time so worthwhile.

TV Dies A Little More With Every Reality Show

People who go on “The Real World” may never be able to live down what they do on the show. They should think of the future. In 10 years, their children or spouse could see them taking body shots and fighting with roommates. Future employers may pass such people up for their dream job. Reality TV tarnishes reputations.

And sitcoms don't tarnish reputations? Then people like Bruce Willis, Gary Coleman, Nancy McKeon should have no problem looking back at their old roles instead of trying to act as if they never even existed.

Shows like “Trading Spouses”, a show in which two families trade their mothers, are sending the wrong message. This is teaching America that trading moms is a normal practice. In a country where about 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, we don’t need to glorify sending our moms away for another woman.

Yea, because I just want to go out and get a new mother.

I'm not defending all of reality TV, but come on now. Shows like "The Amazing Race" are a hell of a lot more entertaining than what sitcoms on NBC, ABC, or FOX have to offer. If you're going to trash tv, don't use one type of show as a scapegoat and ignore everything else on tv. The only reason reality TV came out was because TV was going downhill anyway...it wasn't the other way around.

:lol: You're right, it makes people seem helpless with all these shows. I always thought tv was an escape from our every day lives, if I wanted to watch reality I would turn off my tv ;)

Only if they let it tarnish their reputations, Bruce Willis has nothing to be ashamed of. Moonlighting is a very popular show even now. Diff'rent Strokes is a classic. They let people influence their thinking. "Oh you were on that show" :rolleyes:

I like The Amazing Race.... but could think of a dozen current sitcoms from that I prefer.

To be fair, though, it does not seem right to clump The Real World in with all the other reality shows. It has been around for over a decade and was not part of the late 1990s reality craze.

Actually it would be early 2000s reality craze.
The craze didn't start until Survivor, and that was summer 2000.

I personally hate reality shows, but I'm not against having them on the air. At least they offered a little variety in programming. It's when they dominate everything else on television that's frustrating. If there were only like four new reality shows per year, it would be a lot more tolerable.

Ah, true enough. Although Survivor actually started in May of 2000. Almost summer. Close enough.

For every crappy reality show, there is a really good drama on TV today. It's the sitcom genre that people should be worried about. Liven that up and maybe reality will fade away.
