I liked "I'll Make Love To You" and "I Swear" and Elton's song was alright. I remember "The Sign" by Ace of Base  I don't know why it makes me laugh whenever I hear it though

I didn't want to start a whole new thread so I'm just posting this here. This is the top ten from 20 years ago this week, in 1984.

1-Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr. (2nd week at #1)
2-What's Love Got To Do With It - Tina Turner
3-State of Shock - Jacksons/Mick Jagger
4-When Doves Cry - Prince
5-Stuck on You - Lionel Richie
6-I Can Dream About You - Dan Hartman
7-Missing You - John Waite
8-Sad Songs (Say So Much) - Elton John
9-Sunglasses At Night - Corey Hart
10-If Ever You're In My Arms Again - Peabo Bryson

John Waite and Peabo Bryson were the new entries in the top ten. Dropping out from the previous week were "Infatuation" by Rod Stewart and "Dancing In The Dark" by Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen. Other happenings: the highest debuts on the Hot 100 that week were "Torture" by the Jacksons (#48), then "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder (#58). Making the biggest move up were the Pointer Sisters with "I'm So Excited", from #65 to #50. Jrnygrl, Steve Perry was on his last legs with "Oh Sherrie", it dropped from #75 to #98 in its 20th week on the chart. The oldest song on the chart that week: it was a tie, 24th week on the Hot 100 for both "Borderline" by Madonna and "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger.

of the 1994 list, I like 4 tracks (Lisa Loeb, Mellencamp/Ndege'Ocello, Babyface and Ace Of Base), of 1984 I like the entire list except State Of Shock (IMO, the nadir of MJ's 80's work), of 1974 I like 3 (Three Degrees, Jimmy Ruffin and Hues Corporation)

see, this shows how much times have changed. This week in 1984, the top 5 singles were all by African-American artists, but every single artist was good and appealed to all people.

Yet now when you see the top 10, the number of "pop-friendly" artists in there who also appeal to the r&b market is down to about Usher (and his songs this album are nowhere as poppy and catchy as the 8701 tracks) and nobody else (well, Outkast and Beyonce don't have top 10 songs at the moment).

I miss days like 1984 where music didn't have a color, Tina, Prince, Lionel and MJ were embraced unanimously by white listeners, and at the same time, Culture Club, Madonna, Sheena Easton and George Michael were accepted and given r&b airplay that someone like JoJo or Justin Timberlake could only dream of getting now.

What magazine or survey is this from? The Three Degrees single didn't become a big US hit until the fall, and the Stylistics peaked in June. Is this a foreign chart?

I've never heard of songs 4, 7 or 8 but I like 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. Lionel Richie, Peabo Bryson and Dan Hartman's tunes are the ones I like from 1984 and I'm not too wild about any of the ones from 1994.

I think it's foreign, if I recall, didn't Bay City Rollers not break big in the US until late 75/early 76?

Cool! Thanks for the compilation... I've been wanting to find out what Billboard's 1994 lists were to ckeep them in order, especially with Ace of Base. Thanks!!
