Van Halen's 5150 and Peter Gabriel's SO are my favorite albums from 1986, and two of my favorites overall.

This may be a shock coming from me, but my favorite album from 1986 was not by Prince. Although, of course, I loved "Parade", Janet Jackson's Control album was huge that year, and it just sucked me in. Seeing how all the tracks were written and produced by members of Prince's protege band The Time, I still like to say in some way he was my #1 that year.
