50's Hit songs, during LITB run.

Some of you people may remember these 50's hit songs in their original release dates.
They were playing on the airwaves when 'Beaver' was airing on our tv sets for the very first time.

I remember "Little Star" by that one hit wonder group, The Elegants! I mentioned on a different board that my dad bought my sister and me a record player (a two tone model that played four different speeds!) and a couple of 45s when I was only four years old, back in 1958. One of the songs he bought us was that particular record. It more or less my official introduction to the world of pop music! In fact, someone on the other LITB board was kind enough to do a search of that song on the net for me, and I played it a few times here in the computer room where I work. It certainly brought back some great memories!

BTW, My cousin Margarite Batavio (Little Peggy March) had a big in 1963 called "I WILL FOLLOW HIM"
Remember that one?

We were so proud of her. We all lost contact with her now. It's been years since we performed together for our relatives at gatherings and stuff.

Your cousin is Little Peggy March???? Interesting! Yes, I do remember that song from early '63. Even though I was only about 9 at the time, I think I was on my 2nd or 3rd transistor radio. Lol!

You mentioned that the two of you performed together. Were you both in a band? Too bad that you lost contact with her. It would be interesting to know what she is up to these days. I'm guess she would be about 56 or 57 today, given the fact that she was about 15 when she recorded that song.

I always heard she was the youngest, age 14 to have a number ! song. That is youngest at that time.

Not make this long but,yes Boomer, she was only 15 then. We all performed together in the sense that we sang together as kids at our relatives weddings and gatherings in the 50's. No band though.
I'm 5 years older than her.
I also played guitar and my sister sang. Margie's parents gave her as much talent support as they could.
Singing and Art Lessons galore.
Unfortunately my parents didn't and couldn't do these things.
They we too busy going through a bad divorce at the same time.
The same people that signed Margie told my parents that we should be also considered for a local talent agency for former training etc.,but it cost lots of money.$$$ So a few years later... I went in the Air Force. I started my own R&R band while in the service. "Jimmy De & the Rhythm Rockers"
My sister Pauline got married.
End of story you know? Oh well. ;(

Margie (Peggy) held the record for 35 years of being the youngest singer with a #1 hit single on the charts.

Thank you for sharing that very interesting info about the both of you, Comet97! It's too bad that the situation in your own family didn't allow for the two of you to tour together. Did you ever wish that could have been the case?

I'm curious to hear more about the band you were in while you were in the Air Force, Jimmy De & the Rhythm Rockers. How many members made up the band? Also, how many years were you in the Force? Did you guys continue to get together and play after the service?

Boomer... There were 6 guys in my band. Sax,Bass,Drums,Keyboard,Singer and me on Guitar.
I was in the AF from 1960 to 64
I shipped out and they stayed behind in both bases.
We all lost contact somehow. bummer!

THANKS! Nice site by the way! I have always been fascinated by UFO stories. This fascination started back in 1965, when there was a wave of UFO signings in the Northeast, most notably in New Hampshire. I read a few books about it....Incident at Exeter and Interrupted Journey.

Betty and Barney Hill really brought UFOs to the forefront, didn't they? I remember Betty Hill used to be a frequent guest on the Larry Glick radio talk show here in Boston back in the 60s.
