I was hoping that Hugh Beaumont (Ward) would have been selected as the #1.Dad.
In my opinion,he was the greatest!
At least he got on the Top 10 List.
I don't agree with the results they came up with. Just my 2¢

The results were from voting. you could vote as often as you liked. So maybe if we all voted 10 or 20 more times, then maybe Ward would have been #5 or #1.
Robert Young was not even mentioned for father Knows Best.
by the way in TV GUIDE, Bill Cosby was #1, and Ward Cleaver was #28.

I haven't seen the list, but was it heavily weighted with characters from recent tv shows? That's the way it usually is in these TV Guide lists.

Those voting systems are a little confusing.
I voted on the Net. (TVLand poll) and asked friends to vote for Ward.

So,Ward was #28 huh? I wonder how many Dads they satared out with? Probably about 50 of them,I'll bet.
Interesting stuff...these polls.
Andy Griffith was always my 2nd choice too. and Bill Cosby #3.
Thanks for the info.

Well, I do agree that Andy should have been #1....(I guess that's just the Mayberry blood in me) well, he was... but, anyway Ward should have been in the top 5... Herman Munster shouldn't have been on there IMO
again IMO he was very immature and always wanted things his way.... oh, well I didn't vote on the net so I really can't complain!
Thanks for your time!

Ward was the only one that I voted for that was in the top 10. I voted for him, Red Foreman, Hal Wilkerson, and Dan Conner.

I noticed in the tv guide poll that Rob Petrie made the top 25, I don;t remember too many child father scenes in that show. I was surprise Ward Cleave was 28 in the ranking. Archie Bunker was 24. Archie I thought he might have been lower. I think I expected more kids related show to make the survey. Ward I thought would make the top 10 and ARchie would be in the top 40's or not all all.

This just goes to show you how pathetic a condition our country, or at least the internet "country" is in when we have Archie Bunker and Homer Simpson coming in at a higher spot than Ward Cleaver (who has to be in the top 3 with Andy Griffith and Jim Anderson, IMHO).
My top 10, from the list provided by TVLand would have been:
1) Ward Cleaver
2) Andy Taylor (Griffith)
3) Jim Anderson
4) Cliff Huxtable
5) Steve Douglas (My 3 Sons)
6) Charles Ingalls
7) Howard Cunningham
8) Mike Brady
9) Ozzie Nelson
10) Dr. John Robinson
I left off some great people that I thoroughly enjoy, such as Ricky Ricardo, Herman Munster, Rob Petrie and others only because the interaction they had with their children wasn't portrayed as often as those above.
I picked strictly on how the Dad came across with love and advice, on a regular basis, with their children. Some of the actors listed simply didn't have enough "screen time" with their on air children for me to bump one of my top 10 down.
B&W "the official winning list from TVLand really was off base"

I feel that they should have only included fathers who really interacted with their kids. Ray Barone's kids are hardly ever shown and when they are they run off two seconds later! And Homer Simpson isn't a realistic father. What kind of father is always putting their child in danger and/or always blaming every bad thing they do on their kid?

You are so right Mrs. Ducky! I was very disappointed with the results. Some were ok, but most weren't!

You are right on base. Not only internet country, but the country as a whole. On your list of Bunker and H. Simpson I'll add Herman Munster. Are you kidding me?

According to the Tvland voting rules, you could vote as often as you liked, so the next time a voting poll comes around, take advantage of it. Vote every day, vote 10 times a day. Just take out the time to vote. Ward Cleaver did make it to #8 on Tvland's voting count, but in TV Guide, he ranked #28.

Of course I knew I could voted and in fact did. That is not the point. The fact is that so many voted for Herman Munster, Homer Simpson and Fred Sanford shows the state of affairs this country is in. That was my point.

Yes, I do see your point. It is almost as eye opening that children of America recognize Joe Camel of Camel Cigarettes quicker then they would recognize Shirley Temple. Herman, Homer and Fred is definetely three stooges of stating chaos of state affairs. :stooges:

If I was TvLand, I would have been ashamed to air a show like that with those results. What were they thinking or would a better question be, Do they think at all?
