What are some songs that when remade sound extremely different from the originals? I recently heard the Spinners' version of I'm Coming Home which is nothing like Johnny Mathis' original and gives the lyrics a completely different meaning. Another extreme remake is Richie Havens' cover of Here Comes the Sun. Proud Mary by Ike and Tina Turner also is very different from the original. Blowin in the Wind has also had versions so different that they are like totally different songs.

jamesanthony, great question!

One song that comes to mind that has been remade to sound so different from the original is "Yesterday." This is one song that has been recorded by many, and one of my favorite version is by Marvin Gaye. Marvin put so much heart, soul and emotion in this song from beginning to end, and made it his. If you have never heard this version it is on a CD called "Soul Tribute to The Beatles."

I also love Earth Wind and Fires funked up version of The Beatles "Got To Get You Into My Life."

Mary J. Blige and George Michael do a better version, in my opinion, of Stevie Wonders "As."

I like both of these covers more than the originals. Stevie's is nice, one of his best singles, but something about the duet thing brings As to life and gives it a whole new meaning.
