View Full Version : if I was Diana....

I don't watch AI, but I know more than I ever wanted to know from watching programs like Entertainment Tonight.
I notice that Paula Abdul always interviews the previous night's loser on E.T. as a special correspondent. If I was Diana DeGarmo, I would refuse to grant an interview to her.
Paula and Randy Jackson were both on E.T. basically saying yay Fantasia, boo Diana, which IMO was incredibly unprofessional considering their gig on television. I wouldn't blame Diana if she snubbed Paula when asking for an interview, because for several times over the past few weeks, Paula let it be known on tv that she was 100% behind Fantasia, instead of not playing such a biased role when asked on an entertainment series, you'd usually expect a "well, they're both so great, so I'm rooting for them both". Paula and Randy both basically said "Fantasia rules, Diana sucks", and I thought that was kinda rude, and I think Diana should snub her.

Yeah Paula and Randy don't know the meaning of the word objective. A judge isn't there to push their personal preference. It's about judging the good and bad about both of them. I don't know if she will do an interview with Diana though. Runner-up kind of gets the shaft because everybody wants to talk to the winner. It could be like last year though when they made Clay go everywhere with Ruben. Their first appearance is today on the Ryan Seacrest show. I'm not too upset though about Di losing. She can move on and do her own things without having the stigma of being the American Idol. And she can have someone with a little more credibility write her first single...

Their personal preference is based on good and bad. Fantasia was better than Diana. Plain and simple.

It's SUBJECTIVE! You can shove your plain and simple up your ass. A good argument could be made that Diana is a better technical singer.

Just cause Fantasia won, doesn't mean she'll have more success than Diana. I mean look at Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. Ruben won the competition, but Clay has sold more albums than Ruben and has had more success.

That's not going to be the case here. Fantasia will sell the most albums and have the most success.

Fantasia has more soul and originality. This is a competition based on talent and Fantasia has more hands down. Fantasia has already been offered a recording contract even before the results. Diana is your regular plain jane. I can get anybody off of the church choir if I wanted to hear Diana. She can hold a note but she is no lead singer. She is more background vocals. Fantasia takes charge of the song as well as stage. I really believe some of your comments as ELTON JOHN put it is based on "race" and not the obvious..stage presence..energy...vocal ability.

Some people think Diana's better, some think Fantasia is better. A lot of people i know dont like the screeching and the constant "yeahs" in Fantasia's songs. Also Diana has more range, but its all about what people prefer.

Its all about opinion and preference for the last time. No, we dont prefer Diana because she's white. The racism comment was just blown out of proportion that week. It was simply that the John, Diana, Jasmine and George fans voted hard for their fave (all 4 of them did well that week), and the fans of LaToya, Jennifer, and Fantasia all assumed they were safe.

you just don't go on tv and pick a favorite like that. I don't care for either, but it WAS unprofessional for Paula and Randy to do that.
And regardless, I am willing to bet Diana can sing circles around Paula, she was the original Jennifer Lopez for crying out loud, her judging other peoples singing is like Steven Seagal judging someones acting

Simon and Randy can't sing either. Should they not be judges either?
Paula's singing ability is irrelevant when it comes to judging who is the best in the competition.
Furthurmore, Paula never criticized Diana's singing abiltity. She just stated that Fantasia's is better.

I agree with what you said. They do this still now, with Clay. He was on 2 weeks ago for the results and performed with the 4 girls that were left. Well, the next day Simon and Randy were on GoodDayLive and had nothing good to say about him. They just went about putting him down. They dont want to admit that they pushed for the wrong guy to win, and now they're kicking themselves because they cant take the credit for making Clay win, so they feel the need to put him down.
And like on lastnites show as I had posted in another thread.. they had Clay go host Fantasias party instead of having him be on the stage like it was originally planned. They said they only wanted the 'winners' there. They why the frig was Christina Christian there?!?! They didnt want him there because that would be giving off the message that being a runner-up is just as good as being the winner.
Anyways.. I wish Di all the success because she deserves it.:)

have Simon and Randy ever pursued a singing career?
Trust me, Paula Abdul was HUGE when I was growing up. She was at that time (1989-1991) what someone like Britney was a few years ago. The entire reason she got the gig on American Idol was because she was such a megastar and more people were familiar with the name Paula Abdul than they were Simon Cowell or Randy Jackson. If they replaced Paula next season with Britney, you'd complain because Britney doesn't have the right to critique other voices, right? Paula was just as big in her day. Paula was riddled with lipsynching/ghosting controversies that wound up destroying what credibility she had.

"race" goes both ways. I've seen a lot of black AI fans who are always rooting for white people to lose, and many of them HATE the fact that Clay Aiken still went on to a successful career despite being the runner-up (and when I pointed out to one "you weren't so passionate when Kelly Clarkson won as you were with Ruben", she even said "Kelly's not black!!"). Why the hell is that any different?

I know Paula was once a huge pop star. Everyone knows that. I still don't see what that has to do with her ability to judge American Idol.

Most people would though. Theyd say shes too young too judge and hasnt got the right to judge because her voice isnt that great. Paula can sing better than Britney.. but can you honestly see Britney saying to one of them 'It wasnt that good.. it was pitchy' etc. when she herself doesnt even sing live? Christina is young too, but she can sing amazing and would be a better judge. She also seems as though she'd be more honest. Britneys too nice. I remember last year or so they asked Britney on CNN or whatever on her thoughts of the war and it was all over the internet how theyd ask her a question like that. Because you know, shes a 'pop star'.

I thought the finale was good , w/ all the performances and stuff! I also liked how the celebrities were there! , like Amy Yasbeck , Henry Winkler , Sharon Osburne , Ray Romano , and others. I also saw CHANTEL from American Juniors there! That was cool! :D
About who won , I think Fantasia is a great singer and she defintely deserves it , no doubt about it. I still wish Diana could've won , OMG IF SHE DID I WOULD'VE BEEN SOO HAPPY! It's okay though , when Diana has her album out , I'll be the first to buy it!
Is it just me , or did it seem if Diana won the competition , everyone would've been upset? I mean , everyone was choosing Fantasia as the favorite and I thought that was terrible! I bet if Diana DID win , everyone would've given her a hard time about it. I think they are both equally talented , very different styles of singing , but they are still equally talented and I don't think they should make a fuss about one contestant over the other.

then why would it be racist if a white person won AI, and white people rooted when they won.
Like it or not, she said the reason she was happy Ruben won was because he was black, and the reason she didn't care when Kelly won because she was white. That is absolutely no different than what you accuse white people of doing

Well, Im white and I think that Fantasia deserved to win...because she was just BETTER than Diana, atleast to me. I was for Ruben last year, but that was only because he was from Birmingham, and I use to live there, looking back, I think Clay is a better singer and has better singing ability. The thing about Diana to me what that she was just really....ordinary. I didnt like the way she screamed notes for 10 seconds in every song. Fantasia connects more emotionally with her audience imo, and I think that's what registered with a lot of Americans...I do believe that Fantasia will have more success than Diana, but Diana may have a lot of success too....I dont really see her as the Clay and Fantasia as the Ruben, because Fantasia is a lot more outgoing than Ruben...Ruben's camera shy, but who knows...

Well... I don't know. People at other boards are saying that they will probably just delete it from Amazon. But that means that they are going to have quite a few refunds to hand out if it's pre-sold that many. She could also still have a single come out, but just with different songs. And then some people said they will just send those people who bought Diana's a copy of Fantasia's instead. I'd be pissed if I had pre-ordered and got that mailed to me.

Thats great! I can't wait for it to come out.
I am positive that Diana will outsell Fantasia just like Clay outsold Ruben. Kelly Clarkson was the first and last great American Idol talent. Ruben is just okay and I don't have high hopes for Fantasia outselling Kelly, Clay or Diana.

exactly!! that's the problem I have with Paula. I like some of her songs. But still, she was notorious for lipsynching her concerts back in the day, and was even in the middle of a Milli Vanilli-style controversy that she actually had a ghost singer on some of her songs who sang certain parts without getting credit (Jennifer Lopez later got into heat with this for having Christina Milian and Ashanti ghost vocals on a few of her songs).... yet of all this, Paula is critiquing other peoples voices when she wouldn't even sing live herself?

where did you get the white person from. I don't know what color you are. black people are racist against other black people i would have you to know. sometimes just to fit in. If you make a statement that has no truth to it then you leave me to wonder why...if you make a statement like this one "My God, if I got that thing in the mail Id chuck it across the room.
