I say this one will run one more season and then UPN will throw it out. I hadn't realized until recently that it had been on since 2000 since I never really paid attention to it until this season. It should be eligible for syndication soon. On tvtome.com the fans seem to think it is getting stale. I say one more year, have some of them get married (not William and Joan though Joan and some other man, maybe one of her old boyfriends) and call it a day.

Yeah, it does seem stale. It seems like they are running out of storyline so they are going to make Joan and William hook up (which is wrong). Maya and Lynn do not need to be fighting over the same guy (is he the only guy that live in their complex?) Toni needs a reality check. I don't like her character. Girlfriends is just starting to suck.
The season finale is next week. I'll watch it to see if anything interesting happens.

Even I must admit that the characters seem to be lost in going in new directions. One of the biggest mistakes was marrying off Toni! Who in all of hell would marry someone like that!! Joan should have been the one to get married. But not to William, they are like brother and sister or a least cousins.

I could care less about this show. I don't watch it on a regular basis. Cindy Williams who played Shirley on Laverne & Shirley is gonna be on here next week & so is Lawrence Hilton Jacobs who played on Welcome Back Kotter. I don't like the idea of Joan & William hookin up either.

I have never been a fan of the show. I watched it for the first time this year and i didn't like it at all. I say they should just take it off air like they did the parkers (which pissed me off)!

UPN usually runs there comedies about 5 years, but I had read that Girlfriends is overpowering all the rest of the comedies on UPN, so it will most likely be back. The one comedy that may be ending is One on One, it is not even performing as well as the new mid-season replacement Cuts.

Yeah, I think Girlfriends will be back for another season. It probably will run long just like The Parkers did. I just hope that they continue to add better story-lines.

I don't think Lynn's brother will have a recurring role since he didn't makre the band. I think we will probably see more of Lynn and her band.

This will make Girlfriends the first UPN sitcom to go past 5 years. I don't follow the ratings but it seems that the fact that the show is in syndication might be helping it in primetime. Truthfully, though I haven't been watching it this season this show is a cut or two above any of the other UPN sitcoms which are very blah. This show at least deals with a lot of issues like intraracial prejudice and class consciousness.
Right now in my area they are rerunning the earliest episodes and I have to say that the characters were fully formed and gelled from the beginning (I never paid any attention to this series until season 4). One strange thing in those earliest shows is that Joan breaks the 4th wall and talks to the audience as if she is talking to herself, a gimmick that only makes her look like she needs psychiatric help.

I was glad when they stop doing that little gimmick thing! It annoyed the hell out of me!! :)

syndication must really be helping the show....because i only remember watching the show on primetime once 3 years ago........and i only started watching the show now because my girl is into the show......and she got me hooked.....

It would be the second. Moesha lasted six years.

Technically it would be the first the first to make it to 6 full years and 6 full season, Moesha started as mid season show and lasted five years with 5 full seasons and one half season.

I thought of that the other day. Hopefully when Girlfriends ends it won't be cut off in the dramatic way that Moesha was cancelled, with an unresolved ending.

I hope that when Girlfriends end, Joan is hopefully married, Toni is happy and content with being a mother, Lynn has finally figured out what she wants to do (I hope she goes back to making documentaries again), Maya is in school or graduated and content with her life, and of course William. I hope that William is happiliy with someone or married. So in other words, I agree with Jamesanthony. I hope that when Girlfriends end, everything is resolved. It was very wrong and stupid for Moesha to end the way it did.

I read that the reason Moesha ended the way that it did was because the crew got word at the very last minute that it was cancelled. I can buy that I suppose, but since they had the Parkers spinoff still going and some characters from Moesha still popped up there they should have resolved the cliffhanger plots there. That's the danger with ending the season of your show with a cliffhanger. Especially when your ratings are going down. Better to just end without all that stuff. Half and Half ends its seasons without cliffhangers. I haven't been following Girlfriends that closely, but I know last season it ended with a cliffhanger with Joan knocking at William's hotel door. Could you imagine if UPN had cancelled the show after that episode?

I would have been pissed if UPN ended Girlfriends with that cliffhanger. Networks should have more consideration for their shows. So what if the show isn't doing well in the ratings, at least solve up the characters problems.

i definately think that girlfriends is one of the best shows out there. look how it portrays african americans as being well rounded and diverse sort of people. each of these women come from different walks of life and each of the situations they're going through, everyone can relate to! i recently watched the very first episode, and it was even good then. not many shows can say that they STARTED OFF with a bang, unless of course you mention the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.(my show)
