I gather info from a bunch of different dvd sites I check out, but I don't remember which one had the SATC info. They're all pretty reliable though.

Definates for me are Soap, Diff'rent Strokes, and Good Times.

Wouldn't mind having Playmakers, Who's The Boss, Land of The Lost, Spider-Man: The '67 Classic Collection, Wonder Woman, Starsky & Hutch, Sledgehammer, Boy Meets World, I Love Lucy, Partridge Family.

yes, I am especially looking forward to season 6 because I felt that season really made up for seasons 4 and 5 (season 5 is popular, but it's not one of my faves). In my season rankings, season 6 is my third fave, behind seasons 2 and 3. It would be my favorite season, except it hits a lull for about 5-6 episodes in the middle of the season. The Dark Willow storyline, as well as the musical episode, were some of the best the series ever offered IMO.

That's my rationale too. I always have friends and family getting on me in terms of my dvd buying, but I say better dvds than crack. There's a whole lot more damaging than dvds that I could spend my money on.

I just picked up the first 2 seasons of Charlie's Angels a few days ago for $19.99 each used. Mainly because it's never on anymore except for the ocasional TV Land marathon, and the fact that I never saw any non-Farrah episodes, so I'm glad to own them now.

Two shows that were in the "possibly this year" category now have official release dates, and I was looking forward to both of them, so I'm excited about: Degrassi: The Next Generation and American Dreams. This list (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&postid=1761531#post1761531) is now updated with the dates for those shows, as well as South Park's Passion of The Jew and a tentative date for MASH season 7.

of all the unreleased (so far) on DVD episodes, why did they decide to give Passion Of The Jew a special release? It was hyped for weeks as the best SP ever, and when it finally aired, it actually was perhaps the weakest episode of season eight

Striking while the iron's hot. With all the hoopla surrounding Passion of The Christ, it makes sense that they'd cash in. This release is also supposed to include the episodes "Christian Rock Hard" and "Red Hot Catholic Love."

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--Image Entertainment, Inc. today announced the signing of an exclusive license agreement with Herman World, Inc., which will see the Company release the complete 45-episode (including 6 "lost" episodes never before released to home video) classic television series "Pee-wee's Playhouse," split between two box set collections, and also "Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special," on DVD this fall.


Image, with the full cooperation and participation of "Playhouse" creator and star Paul Reubens, also plans to release in 2005 a definitive, specially packaged limited edition containing all 45 episodes with commentary by Paul Reubens and additional bonus material culled from Reubens' vast show archives.

Basically, they're releasing all the episodes split between two sets this year, then a complete set with all episodes and all the bonus stuff next year.

the first season of Ellen will be coming out in August via A&E Home Video (which I find strange because A&E has never aired the series)

that is one I'm definately getting, even tho I don't think the show hit it's stride until season 3

So far, Cheers and Frasier have been released on the same day.

Frasier - Season 11 was SUPPOSED to come out September 21st, but has been delayed.

The whole Cheers/Frasier synchronization has been messed up. But, as far as I know -- we'll see Frasier - Season 11 before Season 4 of Cheers and Frasier.

I do think they should release seasons 1 and 2 together, as season 1 was completely different than seasons 2-5 as it had several characters who were dropped after the half-season, and it was short.... plus, the Arye Gross era (seasons 1-2) and the Jeremy Piven era (seasons 3-5) were completely different series IMO.

Here's a bit of news that was left off the recent Universal TV press release: Quantum Leap: Season 2 is going to be released on October 26! Season 2 was the first full season of the series, featuring 22 episodes. This 3 disc set (DVD-18) will carry a suggested retail price of $59.98, the same price as season 1, though season 1 only consisted of 8 episodes.

The information we received lists an English Stereo track, but season 1 contained Dolby Surround, so we expect this is just an error in the information we were supplied with. The set will also contain English, French and Spanish subtitles. No word on extras yet, but we expect that to come before the set ships. We'll have cover art available when it's released.

As I understand it, DVD-18 is a double-sided DVD format that holds 15+ GB of information, so what I'm assuming here is 4 eps will be stored on one side and you turn it over to play the other set of 4 eps. That works out to 20 eps on two discs and 2 on the 3rd so that they will have room for the possible bonus materials.

Also, those of you who are buying all 3 seasons of Star Trek, why don't you wait and buy the complete set on the same day Season 3 is released. I don't think you save anything, but you probably get something extra (at least a case of some kind).

Buena Vista is different than Columbia Tristar.

For the most part -- CT is VERY slow.
Wherea Buena Vista is really just jumping into the TVDVD game. (besides a few dramas, and the dramedy Sports Night)

Just checked out an episode guide for I Love Lucy, and saw that the episode where Lucy finds out she's pregnant is in season 2, so now I've got to add that to my list as well. Not just for that episode though, ILL is one of my all-time favorites. I haven't watched it regularly in years so it was a case of "out of sight, out of mind". The season 2 dvd set would be a perfect way for me to get back into the show.

Speaking of Lucy, it seems Im going to have to take the best that I can get, and break down and buy Here's Lucy - The Best Loved Episodes on 8-17. I still wish we got Season Sets.

Also, Im adding Ellen - Season 1, while at my cousin's house I caught a few episodes on Lifetime Real Women (and proud) and really enjoyed it.

Woohoo! Ellen is a great show - at one point it was my all time favorite.

I agree, season 3 (1995-1996) is Ellen's golden season. I also think there was some great stuff in season 4, but the last 3 episodes seem to overshadow the 20 that preceded it (the season she came out at the end)

But that was over a year ago, and TVAdam has almost twice as many TVDVDs as me -- so I cant speak for him.

I'd recently went over a month between
Freaks & Geeks Yearbook and Soap/All In The Family, and that seemed incredibly long. Starting with the 10th of August, there'll be something I want practically every week for two months straight, so my collection will definitely be growing soon.

you think 3 months is bad? Back in the early days of tv-dvd, I went 8 months between the Sex And The City-season 2 release in May 2001 to the Jan 2002 release of Buffy The Vampire Slayer-season 1

I didn't buy anything this week, saving up for next month.

I have the kind of brain where if I know something's out on DVD and it's not in my collection, I'll think about nothing but that show. That's why I try to buy shows on their first day out.

And as for my DVDs, I keep them in a DVD case next to my TV. My TV case is mostly filled. My Movie case has only two shelves full. I'm not big on movies.

There's no doubt in my mind Seinfeld will be the highest selling TVDVD of all time.
As for Frasier -- I know they're releasing it all at this point no matter what, so Im happy. Sales are good, but nothing groundbreaking.

Although The Friends Finale truly does. But for all intents and purposes -- its not a "true" TVDVD, meaning -- its not a season set.

I'm definitely getting Eerie, Indiana: The Complete Series. TVShowsOnDVD.com says its finally getting released! Of course, it was supposed to be made available awhile ago...but hopefully, its for real this time. Its coming in either September or October (there's conflicting info on a few sites) and the list price seems to be $35, which is much cheaper than what it was originally going to sell for last time.

I'm very excited about this set, as I watched the show in the early 90s and really liked it as a kid. I have a feeling this show is one that I will appreciate more now than when I was younger.

with HD and LAS, I wanna know what Paramount wants to charge for the second (full length) seasons before deciding if I wanna part with cash for them or not. I know Paramount, Universal and Buena Vista can be costly companies... and while I like the shows, I don't wanna be spending $50 per season

now knowing that the sets will be chronological (vol. 1 being seasons 1-2 and 2 being seasons 3-5), I wouldn't mind getting Pee-Wee's Playhouse now. It was definately a fun show, and while I haven't seen it since 1990 or so, I have always loved Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, so I'd probably still like the series if I can still enjoy the movie.

How about I get the two volumes to hold me over till the limited edition set comes out next year, and then when that's released, I'll sell you the two volume set? I want that limited edition set but hate waiting until next year to see this damn show again.

I think the actors would like that.
Nobody wants to look like they have bad teeth.
My only problem with it is the stupid yellow "button"

I'm sort of embarrassed to say it, but I've never seen a single episode of Seinfeld. Never in prime time on NBC, never in syndication. I was just indifferent, never cared one way or the other. Nothing against him, I just didn't watch. But for some reason, I've been thinking heavily about buying that set. Sort of like: I know it's a classic sitcom and it's a must that I have it in my collection. I'm sure I won't appreciate it the same way as people who've followed it all along, but I'm seriously thinking about getting the dvds when they come out and let that be my first taste of the show.




















I said all that to say, if I can try out Seinfeld, then barwars, you can try out Pee Wee. ;)

The Christmas special is a good place to start. If that doesn't appeal to you, you probably won't enjoy the series.

Anyone (like me) who was looking forward to "The Man Called Flintstone" will have to wait awhile. It's no longer coming out on December 7, postponed to "a later date." I couldn't even find it listed on deepdiscountdvd, and amazon.com had this note:

:o Hard to believe I know. Yep, like I said earlier, between prime time and syndication, there was just never anything that compelled me to turn the show on and check it out. Nothing against the show or Seinfeld himself at all really. I just wasn't as heavy into appreciating television and trying to absorb as much as I do now. I've watched season 1, disc 1 so far. At this point, I'm telling myself that it's just the beginning, it gets better. Basically, I'm hoping that its claim to being a great sitcom isn't evidenced in the first five episodes. I'm like, now I see what they mean when they say it's a show about nothing. Some scenes seem to go on just a bit longer than necessary without delivering the big punch that you expect (deciding names and occupations on "The Stakeout", choosing who gets the apartment in "The Robbery", the shrunken shirt at the cleaners in "The Stock Tip"). The show definitely seems to have a unique sense of pacing that I have to get used to. I'm not passing positive or negative judgment on it now though. The show lasted nine seasons so I won't judge it by the first five episodes. I'm looking forward to more.

The first two seasons are the weakest of the show, IMO. It really hits its stride in season 3, which ironically is its first full season. That's not to say seasons 1 & 2 suck, but they don't have the pace or feel that the show is known for yet.

Some of my favorites in seasons 1 & 2 are "The Stakeout," "The Robbery," "The Pony Remark," "The Jacket," "The Phone Message," "The Revenge," "The Deal," "The Stranded" and of course, "The Chinese Restaurant."

I read that the ultimate collection will include a whole bunch of the later episodes that aren't considered "classic" Fat Albert episodes. A number of them weren't included on the TimeLife releases. This collection might be good if you're not interested in being a completist (I don't know if you've seen this show, depends if you like it.) But your best bet might be waiting for the chronological discs coming next year.
