View Full Version : Worst song ever

I was listening to my favorite radio station this morning and they mentioned that Blender Magazine came out with their list of the worst songs ever created. The host this morning asked the listeners to call in a song that they think is bad enough to be called the worst song ever. I did this myself, calling in "Brand New Key." Of the songs in the poll in the below link, which do you think are the worst songs? If you can, post your opinions, choices, and reasons that you agree or disagree with song choices that you feel shouldn't have made the poll. I know there are some on there that made me go, "What?"

Yeah, that Tiny Tim song "Tiptoe Thru The Tulips " (which is winning in the votes) is pretty bad. Actually REALLY bad. That and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy" are on the top of my list. McFerrin's song happens to be number 2 on the list too.
Some of the other songs really don't deserve to be up there.
That Blender list was horrible.
Probably written by some music snobs who can't stand top 40 radio.

i voted for Macarena ( :barf: )
Turning Japanese, The Joker, Kung Fu Fighting, shouldn't be on there :grr:

that Blender list is terrible.
WE BUILT THIS CITY the worst song ever?!?!?! I can see where it's not making any "best song ever" lists, but how is it the worst song of all time? I think it's a fun little song. Where's all the rap?

If you're talking about the list in the link it isn't the Blender Magazine list. These were submissions by KOOL listeners.

I disagree with these "KOOL" choices
Carly Simon - You're So Vain
Donna Summer - MacArthur Park
Air Supply - Lost In Love
Rod Stewart - Da Ya Think I'm Sexy (pure guilty pleasure)
why have people ignored these on Blender and KOOL?
Jennifer Lopez - Jenny From The Block (the most banal lyrics ever written)
Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca
basically any Twista, 50 Cent, Fabolous, Ja Rule song
Yoko Ono - Don't Worry Kyoko (I am a fan of hers, but there is no defending this lame song)

"You're Havin' My Baby" is the worst song of all time (with "Justify My Love" a very close second! :p ).
Why no rap on Blender's list? Political correctness! :D

That's what I was thinking? When I heard a caller submit "You're So Vain" I thought, "What???" I also disagree with Yellow Submarine. That's a cool song.
I voted for MacArthur Park. Man I hate that song, but I've only heard Richard Harris's version.

Other people who have sung it include the Four Tops, Donna Summer, Waylon Jennings, and of course, Wayne Newton. The Beatles - the Beatles! - allegedly ran through it during the January 1969 Twickenham Studios rehearsal sessions. Tony Bennett also recorded it, but he just sang the bridge lyrics (the part that goes "There will be another song for me. . . ."). He wouldn't bother with melting cakes in the rain or old men playing checkers.

same here. I loved the song when I was a kid.
If they count We Built This City because they want a "here's the nadir of a once-great band" (even tho I personally like the song, I can see why a lot of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship fans would hate the song), why not substitute with?
Just Push Play-Aerosmith
Day In Day Out-David Bowie
One Hit (To The Body)-Rolling Stones
The Lost Children - Michael Jackson
Look Away-Chicago
all of those songs were more embarassing for their respective artists than We Built This City was to JA/JS/S

I think one of the worst songs ever was.....jeez! its so bad I don't know the name of it, but it goes something like this...
I left my cake out in the rain, it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again.
does anybody have a clue as of what I'm talking about? lol.

I love We Built This City too! It's one of my favorite songs. I love Starship. And why do they get to pick the worst songs anyway? I mean come on, who the hell are they? Those are just their opinions.

"MacArthur Park" won columnist Dave Barry's 1992 reader's poll as the worst song ever. Barry recalled later that when his son Robert helped tabulate the votes, he asked his father how "MacArthur Park" went, so Barry sang some of it and the lyrics about the cake in the rain made Robert laugh hard. He didn't believe it was a real song; he thought his dad was making the lyrics up off the top of his head.

"Achy Breaky Heart". It's hard to think that a "young-country"
singer with a mullet and built like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man ready to beat the crap out of rednecks expects to be taken seriously with such cutesie kiddie-lyrics.
*Marilyn Monroe*

Aww...I love "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" by Rod Stewart! And, I think I may be the only person in the world who likes "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies.

Wow, how could I forget that song? That should have gone in my Top ten least Favorite songs in the other thread! It's terrible, indeed.
By Marilyn Monroe I think I may be the only person in the world who like "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies
I like that song too. So that makes two.

The only reason I liked this song when I was little was because I thought Melanie was singing about a "brand new kitty." I like cats. Oh, how cute, I thought, someone has a new pet kitten! Then I found out the lyric was "brand new key." I've hated this song ever since!
