View Full Version : Anyone else prefer syndicated reruns to primetime?

Anyone else like me? Since I started watching TV at age 5 I've always preferred watching comedies or cartoons 5x a week at the same time of day than watching a primetime show once a week. Part of this was that at 5 or 6 I couldn't stay up late to watch the evening shows anyway and with the daytime reruns I could see the show play out all its episodes and then retread and start over. I liked seeing how the show changed over the years (actors' looks changing etc). I haven't really gone out of my way to watch anything in primetime since the early 90s but up to last year there were syndicated shows that I cleared my schedule to see.

I do!!!
I'd much rather watch old episodes of Leave It To Beaver, The Brady Bunch, The Waltons, or The Wonder Years and not all of that stuff that passes for entertainment nowadays.

Hey James:
Quality of the shows notwithstanding (I think they are getting worse), I have always enjoyed seeing the episodes play out over a few months rather than having to follow something for years and years.
In the late 90s when I first moved out on my own I didn't own a TV for 3 years. Even before that in the early 90s I'd rather go out than stay in and watch the shows. Since then I've caught up with the shows from that era by watching them in syndication so I don't feel like I've missed anything really.
One annoying thing about new shows is that they almost all have these soap opera like continuing storylines (like will the two characters hook up or won't they) which are set up to keep you coming back. The older shows had self-contained storylines and I wanted to come back and see them again the next day.

Thats not what the question was about.
Its asking if you would rather watch an episode once a week in primetime -- or every single day in syndication.
Keep in mind -- its the same show.

barwars88 you're right. I meant watching the shows 5 days a week so you could see all the episodes in a few months rather than over a period of years and summer reruns, preemptions etc.

ok then....
some shows Id like to watch on a daily basis.
but others, i think loose something when you don't have a week to wait before the next episode.
Something like Survivor, I think would be much nicer to watch once a week over several months, rather than once a day over a few weeks.
So.... it really depends on the show.
I think airing a show once a week in SYNDICATION would be cool.... leaving more space for more shows to air.

I like the show when it is running once a week, it lets me get off time from the show.

I don't think there's a current Prime Time sitcom that I like or watch...but then again, I haven't given them much of a chance. I still like the rehashed reruns I've seen a hundred times over and over.

Well, with Friends I like to watch it once a week in prime time (occassionally I will watch reruns)...but with Saved by the Bell or Growing Pains, I could watch those everyday and I wouldn't get tired of them. :D
