Control. I never bought the CD but I still have the cassette that my brother bought for me in '86.

1. Control (1986) - because it's the one where she was no longer just Michael's little sister, because Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (and the forgotten Monte Moir, who wrote and produced the funkiest track: Pleasure Principle) gave her some funky, catchy songs, because it was a huge favorite of mine back then and reminds me of a younger, fun time in my life

2. The Velvet Rope (1997) - Great cd, practically not a bad track on it, favorites are "Got Til It's Gone", "Empty", "Go Deep" and "I Get Lonely"

3. Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) - I'm a big Prince fan, but the Batman soundtrack wasn't my favorite album that year, this was

4. janet. (1993) - "If" and "What'll I Do" are probably my favorites

5. Janet Jackson (1982) - liked the singles way back then, especially "Come Give Your Love To Me"

6. Dream Street (1984) - liked it, it was out when she was on Fame, I liked the title track and "Two to The Power of Love"

7. All For You (2001) - "Trust A Try" by far the best thing aside from the singles (Not including "Son of A Gun" with Carly Simon: ugh)

8. Damita Jo (2004) - listened to it all the way through just once

I love both. But I cannot find her early albums, Janet Jackson and Dreamstreet. I go to Specs, but they don't have them.

You forgot one. What about Design of A Decade? Her hits from 1986-1996?

Please explain why I should count Design Of A Decade among her studio albums? It's a Greatest Hits cd. I don't know anyone who considers it the "followup" to janet. No... they consider Velvet Rope the followup to janet. GH cd's only count if you pull a Michael Jackson HIStory type of deal and release an entire disc of new songs.

"Janet Jackson" I bought a few years ago at a store here in New York. I had a harder time finding "Dream Street" on cd, I got a new, unplayed copy on ebay a couple years ago. I still have my old vinyl Dream Street. If you're trying to complete your Janet collection, you also need to get "Control - The Remixes" which includes the video performance version of Control, the Nasty cool summer mix and other stuff. Also, here are titles of some songs from Janet that haven't appeared on her albums, at least not in the States. They may be on imports, soundtracks or maxi-single bonus tracks:

Accept Me
And On And On
Ask For More
Skin Game
Who
70's Love Groove
God's Stepchild
You Need Me

Plus songs she's done with Herb Alpert, Beenie Man, Busta Rhymes, Shaggy, etc.

there's also a "janet. Remixed" import much like the Control remixes. It has several of those b-sides you listed at the bottom

In order:

1.Rhythm Nation
2.Control
3.janet.
4.The Velvet Rope
5.Damita Jo
6.All For You

Her albums come into groups. Sexual and serious.

Serious
1.Control
2.Rhythm Nation
3.The Velvet Rope

Sexual

1.Janet
2.All For You
3.Damita Jo

If you look closely, you will see that Control, Rhythm Nation, and The Velvet Rope have serious album covers, with no smiling.

All For You and Damita Jo have big smiles on the covers. I don't know what kind of face "Janet" has. It is not a smile, but it is not upright serious. It is kind of a nonchalant face.
