According to today's "Cynopsis" by Cynthia Turner:

You remember Viacom's flak with Echostar and DISH network a few weeks ago when the Viacom-owned cable nets and CBS were taken off the carriage list for a couple of days, only to have the deal resolved? Now Turner is in the hotseat with DISH and at risk are CNN, Cartoon Network, TCM, TBS, TNT and CNN Headline News. According to an AP report, there has been an extension put on the negotiation that will keep the channels in place, though nothing definite as to time frame has been offered. The cause for the lack of seeing eye-to-eye is an increase in rates which Echostar terms as 'unreasonable'.

No it's not a joke. It was on a daily column this person writes about TV News(Cable and Broadcast). She frequently posts ratings and programming notes for networks too. It's not a joke.

wonder why Direct TV doesn't have this same problem? Seems like its usually Dish Network that has these problems.

If this happens, safe bet a lot of people would switch to Direct Tv or go back to cable.

I know that when Dish had to drop the Viacom channels, many cable systems started running ads telling the customers to come back. Even in cities where the Viacom uproar didn't affect them.

I can't imagine why anybody would still want Dish Network or would subscribe to it. It seems that they have the problems, not the networks because no other cable or satellite provider is going through this. I personally dislike satellite anyway. I have basic cable, but would get digital cable before satellite.

Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes and won't make decisions for their customers again about how much money THEIR CUSTOMERS are willing to spend. I really don't want to lose TBS...
