Kirstie Alley plays Christine Walesh, a wedding planner by day and a single mom by night. Christine is a single mom of two kids; Vanessa (Lindsay Sloane) and Mitch (Ashton Kutcher). Christine's slacker kids are jobless and live with Christine. Christine's best friend, Marlene Thomas (Candace Bergen) works with Christine and helps her through her everyday problems. Christine's ex-husband, Mark Walesh (Jim Belushi), who just so happens lives next-door.

Ray Romano and Fran Drescher play Nick Malone and Sarah Monroe, old high school sweethearters reunited at their 25th high School Reunion. They hit it off really well and then decided to get married. Nick and Sarah both are on their second marriage now. Nick's ex-wife, Linda (Maggie Wheeler) and him had one son, Alex (Andrew Keegan). Sarah's ex-hubby, Rick (Jerry Seinfeld) and her had one daughter, Cassie (Mila Kunis). Series begins with Nick and Sarah arriving home from their honeymoon to learn that their exes are dating.

Betty White plays Rosemary Winters, a recently retired school teacher, who is movig into a retirement home in Florida. Rosemary meets several friends: the ever-so-gossiping Francine (Doris Roberts), the trampy Gladys (Rue McCalahan), the ladies man Norman (Ed Asner), the optimistic Cathleen (Estelle Harris), the pessimistic Hank (Peter Boyle), and the "Mr. Know-It-All" Chuck (Jerry Stiller).

Paul Reiser plays Paul Mason, a English professor and a widowered father of five sons. Paul, who needs help, calls his single, big brother, Mike Mason (John Goodman), a plumber, to help him raise his sons since their mom died. Mike willingly helps Paul raise his five sons by moving in with Paul and the boys. The five boys range from: Randy Mason (Ben Savage,"Cory" from Boy Meets World), Justin Mason (Jonathon Taylor Thomas,"Randy" from Home Improvement), Brad Mason (Frankie Muniz, "Malcolm from Malcolm In The Middle), Luke Mason (Griffen Frazen,"Jimmy" from Grounded For Life), and Chris Mason (Mitch Holleman,"Jake" from Reba). Randy is a 24 years old college graduate who lives in his father's basement, with his little brother, Justin is a 22 years old college senior who attends a local college. Brad is 17 years old middle child, who is a straight A-student and can't wait to go to college. Luke is 15 years old, the boy who can't seem to find his true self yet and starts questioning stuff. Chris is 9 years old who is very curious and wants to help find his daddy a mommy quickly.
