View Full Version : What story would you like to see made into a movie?

Are there any stories that you find interesting and would like to see turned into a movie?

I would like to see the stories of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. made into a movie. That whole rivalry and gang element fascinates me. Perhaps since the cases haven't been solved, there may be legal issues that prevent a movie from being made.

If I ever got into the film industry, I would love to make a movie about the late, legendary and controversial baseball manager Billy Martin.

One book that I would also like to make into a movie would be Catcher in the Rye but the author, J.D. Salinger is very reclusive. He wouldn't sell the film rights to Jerry Lewis (a big admirer of the novel).

I worked at a videostore, and we had a Biggie/Pac video. I've also seen the same video on tv commercials. Google it...

I'd also like to make movies about The Smothers Brothers and an actor that probably nobody here has heard of named Rondo Hatton. And no that is not makeup he is wearing in that picture. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0369061/bio

Another story I'd like to make into a movie is Beowulf. There actually is a movie about Beowulf starring Christopher Lambert but that was a horrible movie. I'd make one that is more faithful to the story.

That would make an interesting movie. Billy Martin was one colorful character whose life ended tragically.

As for casting, who would play Martin...maybe Sean Penn?

Thanks. I googled it, and a documentary came up. I would like to see that, but I'd still like to see it on the big screen.

I have done considerable research on former boxer Sam Langford who fought as early as 1902. He was called the Boston Tar Baby in an age when the overt racism of such terms was accepted.

Sam would fight opponents from lightweight to heavyweight with little regard for their size or skill. In only his first full year as a pro, 1903, Langford defeated lightweight champion and All-Time great Joe Gans. The next year he fought the original Joe Walcott to a draw. In 1906 he defeated Joe Jeanette, then 3 weeks later lost a 15 round decision to future heavyweight champion Jack Johnson. He fought tough white contender Fireman Jim Flynn three times from 1908-1910, with a draw and two KOs to his credit. Seven years later, Flynn would KO Jack Dempsey in one round, though there has always been speculation it was a fixed fight. (Dempsey took care of Flynn in one in the rematch)

In 1910 Langford met the great middleweight champion Stanley Ketchel. Newspapers of the time reckoned Ketchel the winner by a narrow margin. Six months later Ketchel was murdered, ending any possibility of a rematch.

He fought Harry Wills, a solid 6'4", 220 pound heavyweight 18 times! Wills knocked Langford out twice and won the newspaper decisions in most of the other bouts. He also fought former Great White Hope (of the Jack Johnson reign) Fred Fulton, another huge heavyweight at 6' 4 ½", but lost on points.

When Jack Johnson was heavyweight champion, he refused to fight Langford again, drawing his own color line. Though most experts of the time felt Johnson would handle Langford handily, he was still a dangerous opponent and not worth the risk.

Stories persist that Langford repeatedly begged Dempsey for a title shot and was always turned down by Doc Kearns, the Manassa Mauler's manager. "Sorry, Sam, but we're looking for something easier."

Langford wound up going blind, had no money and continued to fight. It is said that Sam was 5'9" tall but I've found instances where he is listed at 5'6". He pretty much wound up penniless and died in a rooming house in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I think it would make an amazing movie with perhaps one of the all-time great middleweights playing the lead role...Marvin Hagler.

Backbeat (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0106339/) and Birth Of The Beatles (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0078865/) are the only ones I can think of.

I'm currently working on two screenplays: one chronicles the last sixteen years of Dennis Wilson (http://www.denniswilsondreamer.com)'s life, and the other is about Bill Hicks (http://www.billhicks.com).

Thanks a lot AKA, and when you have those hit movies, I'll be the first one in line. :)

Any thoughts on casting for Dennis or Bill?

Jason Lee is someone I had in mind for Bill. For Dennis, I was thinking John Corbett or Nick Stabile, who played Dennis in a TV movie a few years ago.

You must be familiar with the case of the woman on Cape Cod whose car broke down and the guy offered her a ride. She even called her parents from his cellphone, in his car, thinking that she was safe. Then he killed her.

Her parents sued AAA for telling her there would be a 3-hour wait, prompting her to accept his ride.

No I don't remember that one. Wow I'm glad they sued for that I don't blame them. I'd rather wait 3 hours than get in a car with a stranger though.

I don't know whether or not it's been made into a film or not, but I think Superstitious by R. L. Stine would make a good film. It was his first adult book. I bought it quite a few years ago, around 1995, '96 or '97. The book was so strange . It was about this woman who meets this guy who's obsessed with superstitions and he ends up being this crazed psycho and she has to try to get away from him. It's been quite awhile since I read it. I think it's R.L. Stine's best book so far, though.

Son of Rosemary- OK, the ending to that book was bad, but the rest of the story was great!

The Hobbit- IMO, the Hobbit is better than Lord of the Rings- it'd probably appeal to way more audiences- I'd love to see the battle between the four species, the spiders in the forest and Smaug.

I know sometimes 'true life' dramas are really bad- but about 6 months ago I read a case (I still might have it saved)- I read it cos it happened to this girl in the rocky horror community- and she was going out with a sort of 'dream guy' for her (she wasn't the most popular or good looking- yet everyone wanted to go out with this guy) and this other girl, who'd been known to steal away men, did all this stuff (I can't remember- there were 3 killers involved)- and they got her to come to a field or something and killed her with a shotgun and baseball bat. I can't remember the whole story- it was very very tragic though, but I think a film could be made in her memory.

I have a series of books (7) written by David Eddings and entitled 'The Belgariad' i would love to see them made into a movie, however to do this with enough care and attention to the books, i fear they would have to make them like 'Star Wars' (3 movies) i have always liked 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy as well but i'm going to stick my neck out and say 'The Belgariad' could outstrip LOTRs without any problem. They are faster paced and contain many more characters, not to mention a gripping storyline. LOTRs was too drawn out and sometimes boring for me, that would be an impossibility with 'The Belgariad' If you have'nt read the books and that's the type of thing you like, read them, you most certainly won't be disappointed.

I think it would, too, in a way - but the content is so graphic that they'd have to whitewash it A LOT. To me, the book is such a masterpiece that a movie could never live up to it. That's just my opinion.

Did you ever finish the book, Brandon? I'd love to hear your thoughts!! :D

I can't picture any current actor - but had the book/movie come out 30 or so years ago, I could definitely see Christopher Reeve in the part. Michael was 26 at the start of the story, and Christopher Reeve was about that age when he debuted as Superman. Not to mention he played in a period romance - Somewhere In Time.

i'm reading a book called Redeeming Love and it's wonderful. it would make a great movie, IMO.

You know, I've seen some vintage (if you can count 1984 vintage,) clips of the now-defunct NBC soap opera Santa Barbara, which was the then-unknown 18-year-old Robin Wright's big break. She was paired on screen with an 26-year-old actor named Dane Witherspoon (no relation to Reese). Those are the same ages the main characters of Redeeming Love, Michael and Angel, were when they met.

Anyway, Robin Wright had waist-length blond hair, blue eyes and flawless skin then, just like Angel. Dane Witherspoon had dark hair, blue eyes and was lean and toned just like Michael. As a matter of fact, the two actors fell in love for real while they were auditioning for the roles of Kelly Capwell and Joe Perkins on SB. They were an item for some time, marrying in 1986 but divorcing in 1988. Both are now divorced from their second spouses (Robin from Sean Penn and Dane from Tracy Shaffer). Robin is still in the limelight (she's in a new movie co-starring Alexis Bledel) but Dane Witherspoon has long since retired from acting and now lives in Colorado as an independent entrepeneur.

Too bad their real life love story didn't last because they totally sizzled together on SB (check out the clips on YouTube and you'll see that the chemistry went deeper than just an on-screen story). Had Redeeming Love been written in the mid-80s, this duo would've made an excellent Angel and Michael Hosea.
