View Full Version : Movies that you gave up on

Have you ever seen a movie that made you quit watching it before it finished? I know one movie that describes that experience. That movie is Braveheart. That is the most violent movie I have ever seen. I quit watching before an hour of it was even over. It was a good movie but I got repulsed by the violence. I'll probably give it a second shot but tell myself that the blood and violence and stuff is all fake. Maybe it will prepare me for The Passion of the Christ (another ultraviolent movie).
"Freddy Got Fingered." I walked out of the theatre about fifteen minutes in and got a refund. One of the most moronic films I've ever attempted to watch.
Rip Torn, what the hell were you thinking?

I almost gave up on Adaptation, but I kept watching because of Meryl Streep. I'm glad I did, because by the end of the movie I didn't end up hating it. I don't think it was the best movie (or even close to it) but it wasn't horrible. Though, I can't say I'd want to watch it again anytime soon.

What did you think of Spike Jonze's "Being John Malkovich?"

That's a movie I haven't gotten around to seeing yet. I have wanted to see it for a while now, so one of these days I will.

I didn't like it the first time I saw it, but I gave it a second chance and I loved it.
Incidentally, Spike Jonze is one of my favorite music video directors (along with Mark Romanek (http://www.markromanek.com), who went on to direct "One Hour Photo")

I'll try to see it soon. I have a list of SO many movies I want to see. Maybe I would like Adaptation more if I watched it again.

Two movies come to mind for me. The first one is "Old Skool." I was hesitant about watching it from the very beginning, but decided to give it a try. After about 10 minutes though, I had to take the DVD out. That movie was way too filthy for my taste. The other one was "The English Patient." Iv'e said it before, and I'll say it again, I don't know how that movie won so many Oscars. That first hour had to have been one of the most boring hours of my life!

Blade Runner
Dune
Dark City
The first spaceship on Venus
My roommate rents crappy movies. He tries to convince me they're good, but most of the time I last about fifteenminutes and then I say I'm going to check my E-mail.
Two or three hours later I come back into the living room.

well, Braveheart was violent, but it was based on a true story, so it's more of a realistic depiction. I think that is more acceptable than a slasher flick with shock value

I first thought the guy who played the burnt The English Patient was Freddy Kruger! I think Sling Blade should've recieved best picture that year.
I'm sick and tired of these low budget drug movies. Okay, Trainspotting was good. But movies like Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and Requiem for a Dream were really dumb. The worst of them all is a movie called Spun. Who in the hell wants to watch a drugged out constipated teen- trying to take crap on the toilet. And why show the end result of her success? Meanwhile, her boyfriend is jerking himself off in the next room.
These drug movies are getting more idiotic every year.

To be honest, I don't even remember the burnt guy from the English Patient. I despised that movie so much, that I sort of blocked it out of my mind. All I really can remember about that movie, is William Defoe's character being really weird.
I totally agree with you on Slingblade! I thought that, and Welcome To The Dollhouse were the best movies of 1996. I still can't believe Billy Bob Thornton was able to keep his jaw like that for the entire film. That must have been really painful after all the months it must have taken to shoot the film.

I rented "Spy Game", starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt and stopped watching after the first hour and 15 minutes when I realized I had zoned out on it 30 minutes earlier. Boooring, though it's from a directer who's done other movies I really liked (Enemy of The State, Crimson Tide.)
Someone mentioned "Being John Malkovich" I made it all the way through that one, but still didn't like it.

I give up on many rental movies at home, but the only movie I ever walked out of the theater on was Dune. To this day, it's a joke with me and my husband.
He'll ask what I have for rentals, and I tell him I got Dune and I want to watch it all weekend, over and over.

I first saw that movie in 4th grade. I refused to step in a shower for weeks because of a scene in that movie and I vowed to never watch it again. Of course, I saw it several times yeas later. Leonard Maltin says that this movie is not recommended to anyone who has ever covered their eyes during a movie. He's right. The first time around I didn't cover my eyes but whenever I see it I have to (like the scene where the spider jumps on the camera lens).

I've never walked out of a cinema during a film because I didn't like it- I guess it's cos I'm cheap, and I'm not paying for a film then not watching it. Also, I'd feel sum kind of guilt from doing that!

off topic but along those same lines, that's why I don't like someone talking to me during a movie. I didn't pay to see a movie and also chit chat about it during the movie. If you wanna talk, wait till the movie's over. I always try to ignore friends when they say something to me during a movie, hoping that they get the message that I 'm focused on the movie, not talking to them.

That would be Cujo.

"Cheaper By the Dozen" - I turned that movie off 25 minutes in. That movie was DUMB. I also did it to "Dude, Where's My Car?" - both movies royally sucked, IMO.

If you never saw the ending, you've totally missed the whole point to the film! It's an amazing movie, but you definately need to watch it all the way through. One of the best movies I've ever seen :)
I normally don't walk out on movies. I've paid money for them I sit and struggle through. There are several however, that I wish I'd walked out on:
Drowning Mona
Dude Where's My Car (my friend's birthday, he chose it)
Road to Perdition
The Beach
Waterworld
Tommy
City of Angels

Bagger Vance. Boring movie.
Anyways, the movies I fell asleep on [I just sleep, not leave] were The In Laws [the one with Michael Douglas], Bulletproof Monk, X2 [I know it was supposed to be AMAZING but I just couldn't stand it], and The Hulk.
Actually The Hulk, we did leave.

"Unbreakable" with Bruce Willis. Stopped watching after about 20 minutes.
I just sat through "Matrix Revolutions," and boy is my brain tired.
I don't know what happened, but those Wyshowski guys really screwed up a good thing. Which is a shame, because the first film was really inventive and cool.
Reloaded had some great action sequences, which kind of saved the film since things really started to get confusing, but Revolutions was a mess. Made no sense whatsoever.
So I have officially given up on the "Matrix" films.
