Bill Murray didn't clap when Sean Penn was announced as the winner. He nodded his head a couple of times and seemed to be unaffected.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. I did notice the not clapping, but this article is painting him to be very bitter (almost as bad as Chevy Chase). I'm still not convinced that it's true.

I have heard that Bill Murray can be a bit moody from time to time, but since the article was published in The Sun, I wouldn't trust it to be the truth.

I don't know about the bitter part, but it's not logical to think that not winning a Best Actor Oscar didn't affect him. He cared plenty. It was all over his face throughout the night.

I think it was Billy Crystal who joked about it to him during the ceremony, and Murray looked like one disappointed guy.

My impression, without knowing any of this inside dope stuff, was that Bill Murrray was beyond himself wtih disappointment. I didn't think Billy Chrystal was kidding at all when he spoke to Bill Murray from the stage.

I think everything out of Billy Crystal's mouth that night was said either tongue in cheek or flat out joking.

I can't imagine any host making a serious remark to a nominee who just lost. I forget the joke, but I remember that everyone but Bill Murray was laughing. I do recall thinking that it was in bad taste, but I remember it was a joke.

I think it was right after Penn's acceptance speech. Billy Crystal looked at Bill Murray, who looked very devastated and said something like, "Bill, don't leave! Stay here! We love you!"

That sounds about right. Thanks for jogging the memory AKA. I'm sure Billy Crystal was trying to make Bill feel better by bringing some levity and humor to the moment, yet it appeared to make him feel worse. He looked like he wanted to crawl under his chair....and people laughed.

I remember feeling creeped out. I was thinking, Leave the guy alone. Get the camera off him.

I didn't mean that Chrystal's comments to Murray weren't tounge in cheek. What I meant was that it was one of those jokes with some truth in it that was meant to make light of a situation. It happened to make matters worse for Murray instead. Or at least that's the way it seemed to me. I certainly don't think that that was what Chrystal intended. It seemed to me that Bill Murray was bummed at the time and was in no mood to compose himself about it. Chrystal joked, but he meant no harm. That's my take. :)

I don't think they should zoom right in to any other nominee once the winner is announced. I think it was at the Golden Globes, where Matt LeBlanc looked really pissed off all the time too.
Also, in the Oscars, when they showed a clip from all the best actor nominee's performances were shown, all the actors smiled and all- then they played Lost in Translation, cut to Bill Murray- who rolled his eyes in boredom (that's what it looked like to me anyway).

Personally, I'd hate going to award shows too. In my old school awards for acheivement were given out every month, and you'd go to the front, having to walk through crowds of people, it's really nerve-racking.
